Dropbox is not working on Ubuntu 20.04

Dropbox is not working on Ubuntu 20.04

Hi all,

Since it stopped synchronising for a while, and after trying several tricks, I decided to reinstall from scratch. I have uninstalled and reinstalled a few times but always the same problem: the icon doesn't appear, and I never asked which folder to use as the root for Dropbox. In some occasions I got it synchronising with /home/user/Dropbox but I don't want it there because I don't have enough space there. I have an ext4 partition where I used to have my Dropbox folder (for a year that was working smoothly), and I want to redirect the Dropbox contents there. I cannot either use selective synchronisation because, again, I cannot access preferences, as the icon never appears. Any hints? I need a solution 😞

PLEASE, any information or help will be welcome

Hey @yulay2000, thanks for posting on our Community and sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

If you made sure that your device meets the minimum requirements as outlined here, could you try an advanced reinstall?

Let me know how it goes!

I tried the advanced installed several times before posting here. I could never get the Dropbox icon in the right upper corner back, so, that is why I can't use the "Move folder..." capability, selective sync is also unavailable, to reduce space. It doesn't respond to the option exclude either.

As I intended to use a distinct drive (with more space) in my hard disk, the only thing that seemed to work, even though I find it quite uncomfortable to use, is calling dropbox using as HOME a distinct folder. By now, I get my computer synchronising in the folder I wanted, but I don't know what happened and why it stopped working in June, as I have Dropbox running in another Ubuntu machine and everything works smoothly (by now, fingers crossed).

Thanks for keeping me in the loop @yulay2000 - most appreciated!

I'm glad to hear you managed to resolve your concern in the end.

When it comes to the issue with selective sync, are you referring to what's described in this discussion perhaps?
