What’s new: March 2021

It’s that time again - no, not time to admit that the plant you thought you could keep alive isn’t going to bounce back - it’s time for our monthly update. This month the updates are all focus on making it easier to share and manage your files, so some of these will have a huge impact on how we work together while we’re apart!

File preview for Dropbox Transfer recipients:

This is a simple but impactful update. Now, when you send a file using Dropbox Transfer, the recipient can preview it without having to download it first. As always, they don’t even need to have a Dropbox account to download or preview the files, and you can add passwords and personal logos to the files too.

Admin updates:

Roles and permissions:
Biz Admins can often have a lot on their plate to manage, so now it will be possible for Admins to grant members of their team specific roles and delegate some tasks. These new roles include billing, security, content, compliance and reporting. These new updates will roll out for Admins over the next few weeks, so keep an eye on your Admin console.

External sharing visibility
We know how important is can be  to know what has been shared, and with who. External sharing visibility allows you to create a report on shared links and directly shared folders and files can be created. You will also see a new page in the admin console with all files and folders that are currently externally shared directly or with shared links. Now you can know exactly what has been shared with a wider team.

Data retention and Disposition:
For teams who have signed up for that add-on, there is now a new tab, that will sit under the new heading of Data Governance, to help Admins to manage folders and ensure they don’t get removed before they should. Admins will be able to specify that a folder cannot be deleted until a certain date. With Data Disposition admins can choose what happens to the data once that date is reached.
