Can't access DB on new computer because of 2factor authentificiation

Can't access DB on new computer because of 2factor authentificiation

Hi,

I'm hoping to get some help. It's odd (and very frustrating) that such a large company doesn't have actual technical/customer support. Regardless, I've used DB for nearly a decade now but I recently upgraded to a new computer. While I have my login/password (and it's correct), because the account is so old, the email associated with it is inactive and therefore I can't get the authentification code and I can't shut off 2-factor. Therefore, I can't access my files. My entire life is (literally) stored on DB and though I've tried to port the files to Google Drive, some are missing and I need access to do my job. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Sarah

Hey @sbhopton, I'm sorry to hear about this.

Can you clarify what you mean that the email address associated with the account in question is inactive? Can you re-create it perhaps?

If not, do you happen to have a device you had connected in the past at hand?

Keep me posted, Sarah.

Hi there. Thanks for the reply.

Yes, so I can't access the original email address. It was hosted on a private server for a website that is no longer operational. So when I try to log on with the new machine, DB sends a verification code to the old email address (which I can't get into). Since I can't get into it, I can't input the verification code and so it won't let me access my files. I can create a new email address but can't link the accounts without the code, so you see my conundrum.

I don't have the old computer handy but my IT specialist does. So if you have a work around, please send it and I'll ask him to do it and let me know if it works.

Thanks again,

Sarah

Hi @sbhopton

Without access to the email there is no way to get access to an account. The comment about a new email was in relation to resetting up the old email address again (i.e. can you recreate it). If not, the quickest and easiest fix (assuming you have the old machine and Dropbox data still on it) is therefor to just download it and set up a new account.
