Storage Space

I am moving from an iMac on Big Sur to a M1 Mac Mini with the latest version of Monterey. I'm using the 4TB plan with the actual files on a 5 TB external drive. Dropbox was installed on the iMac and all worked well with the folder on the 5TB drive. Moving to the M1, I get the notation that my Dropbox folder can only be in the library on the M1. How can I tell Dropbox that my DB folder is the one on the external drive?
This is critical, as my entire workflow depends on the contents of that folder on the external drive. A small part of a 512 SSD will not work. I'll have to devise another workflow, it won't be as easy as the one that I was using with Big Sur on the iMac.
I'm on the DB Plus plan, and am using under its limit.
Hi @cgphoto, thanks for messaging the Community!
For more information on this matter, this article should help clarify the changes when using the updated version of the Dropbox desktop application.
Among other changes, storing your Dropbox folder on an external drive is no longer supported by macOS.

Is that a permanent "solution", not being able to store Dropbox folder on an external drive ?
Is it not gonna be available in the future? If so it's unfortunately bye bye for me.
Have been using Dropbox from the start and have FAR to many projects stored/backed up to be handled by the internal system drive.
(I need to have them available offline at all times in my line of work)
This has always been the case @podusa and I cannot foresee it changing - Dropbox, however, doesnt do roadmaps, but they have said its likely to stay this way due to the huge risks of data loss and corruption.

Well, I've been perfectly happy all these years with no data loss at all. Been 100% rock solid.
But, best of luck to Dropbox in the future. Will not work for me unfortunately (working professionally in the music industry with far too many gigabytes to store internally in my projects) Gonna have to start looking for something else.
Soooo....what are my alternatives?
(I REALLY don't want to move from Dropbox. This is the worst decision I've heard of. Ever. Unbelievable)
