Storage Space

Hi All,
I have a new Mac and I am trying to access files in my free Dropbox account. Eventually I want to transfer them all to my Mac.
It says it has stopped syncing due to not enough storage. But I have deleted many large files to make room. I can see the folders but when i click on them, there is nothing there. I think it is because it is not syncing. I have no idea what to do.
I think if I could get it to sync, it would then know I have space available and I could access my files....

Is this error regarding storage coming from the Dropbox desktop application, the site, or from your OS itself for disk space?
