Re: Long Sharing Link

Shared Link / "scl" to "s"

Hello. My question concerns my recent issue with file sharing. Usually, my links were generated in this way: 'https://www.dropbox.com/s/'. However, lately, every file is being generated in this way: 'https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/'. Do you know a way to restore the old way of generating links? I just need old way of links, because game can't read new links

It doesn't work

No it does work, you need to change the created links end of the link from dl=0 to raw=1 and then it will work.

So I store a lot of fonts that I've paid for on my dropbox, in case my computer dies and I lose them. And I have the .woff files linked to stylesheets, so they are accessible in coding.

@import url('https://dl.dropbox.com/s/p6qsidr93tbp8n7/stylesheet.css');

This is how I link a file, however, out of nowhere, a lot of the characters inside the link changed. And there are instances where none of the link changed, but I have to change .dropbox to .dropboxusercontent.

And then there's this instance where the links really look messed up:

@import url('https://dl.dropbox.com/scl/fi/th6o83rg7fwcvl1atzpla/stylesheet.css?rlkey=wbz9a4j77k43ilp1bgw283xyq');

It requires a key now?? IDK

Does anyone know why this is happening, and how I can restore the original links as they were?

Hey @balmukund007, thanks for your contribution to this thread.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/scl/fi should work if you have a valid public link; does the link itself preview on a browser without an issue?

And can you also send us a screenshot of the link settings (click the share option next to the file on dropbox.com and then on the gear icon)?

Hi,

I have a question about sharing a link. When I share any file, in previous times, it used to give a small link. But now for all new files, it shows a long sharing link something like "dropbox.com/...../image.png?rlkey=12xxxxxx..." There are extra words or characters at the end of the file name. So, is there any option to make it a small link like before?

Why dropbox has started such a loooong link? What was wrong with the old time small link?!! 😞

Warmly regards,
Abid H.

Thank you @Hannah for continuing to direct our community to this thread for questions related to forced downloads and the change in URL format.

As mentioned my post marked as the solution, this change reflects our move to an updated shared link architecture.

This utilizes a rlkey parameter to grant access and is a "content based" rather than "user based" link.  Content based links are tied to the content being shared and are the same for every user accessing that content.  The old architecture would instead create a unique link for every user who clicks "create link".

Good morning everyone,

I'm opening this ticket because I noticed severals already closed without a solution.

We need to work with the old links because the .csv files we are working on now only support that type of link.

We have already set "dl=1" at the end of the sharing URL but it is not enough.

The link is public and anyone can access it from their browser, view it and download it (without logging into the DB, from incognito browsing etc..)

Incorrect link for the .csv but accessible for us: [removed]

Link readable from the .csv but not createable for u: [removed]

Could you help us?
Thanks for your time
