Is there a way to change the default PDF viewer in the Dropbox App for the iPad? When I click on "Open in" in a PDF, it only shows the option of Adobe, but I use PDF Expert. (In contrast, on my Mac, when I double click on a PDF in my Dropbox folder, it automatically opens in PDF Expert). If I can't change the default PDF viewer to PDF Expert on the iPad, what is the easiest way to open a PDF from Dropbox in PDF Expert? (Of course I already know that I can start IN PDF Expert and open Dropbox files there from Dropbox, which I have linked to it; but this is for when I happen to have begun from the Dropbox iPad app instead.)Solved1.5KViews2likes5CommentsMove Dropbox folder from local to external disk on Mac
MacOS - I have the Finder integration whereby I have a "Dropbox" as one of my Favorite locations. All my files are fully backed up, Online Only. If I mark any file for offline access, it downloads to my local (internal) disk. I would like to have all my files kept locally for offline access stored on my external disk (USB attached SSD). I would then enable sync to keep both copies in sync (online and offline). How do I go about moving the file pointers/links (I'm assuming that's what they are) on my system so that the Dropbox "favorite" in the finder will direct to the external disk and not the local one?Solved899Views0likes5CommentsThe dropdown context menu (right-click on Mac) isn't showing
Dropbox's added dropdown menu options (like “Copy Dropbox link…” and “make online only” etc.) that show via right-click on Mac Finder window are suddenly absent. May this have anything to do with recently having unlinked and re-linked my Dropbox? I did a re-link two weeks ago per a DropBox Tech's suggestion, troubleshooting a different issue. Now I have two different Dropbox accounts. The new dropbox is visible in my Finder, the old one’s in ~/Library/Cloud Storage. Can I just delete that old one? Might that fix the issue?Solved599Views0likes24CommentsHow to remain ineligible for "new Dropbox for macos on File Provider"
Luckily, I managed to still be ineligible for macos on File Provider, and I would like to keep it that way. How do I make sure I do not become eligible and keep the ~/Dropbox location, in my home folder? I have set my default to Available Offline and choose Selective Sync for folders that should remain on Dropbox. Is that a successful configuration towards my goal? Are there any complexities I could add to make sure I'm the last one to become eligible? Uncountable things would break if I were to wake up to "your Dropbox folder is now in ~/Library/MobileSomething". I installed Dropbox 217.4.4417 on a new Mac with Sequoia 15.3 OS. After logging in it never managed to pass the indexing stage. I tried the following: - Logging out and logging back in; - Uninstalling and reinstalling the application (also using advanced reinstallation); - Fixing the hardlinks as suggested here [https://www.dropboxforum.com/discussions/101001014/dropbox-stuck-indexing-files/680930]; - Giving access to full hard disk; Nothing seems to fix the issue. I can see by monitoring Dropbox via Activity Monitor that it doesn't use almost any CPU/GPU and it does not use almost any network resources. Nevertheless, the app is still saying it is "indexing". Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!347Views0likes10CommentsDropbox icon with checkbox white interior remains a mystery.
Megan from the DropBox staff offered some help to an earlier post entitled "Dropbox icon and folder status on a Mac” but despite my replies, the discussion went dead seven days ago. I still have outstanding questions and would like to revive the discussion. I have selected the preference that all files and folders be available off-line on my primary MacBook, however, I have a mix of checkboxes, that is to say both kinds… green interior and a white check mark and white interior with a green checkmark. Below is the explanation link that Megan supplied, but there's no mention of the check mark with white interior, which was puzzling because I had seen but lost another page earlier that included that in the explanations. In looking at this article about syncing icons and reference was made to the DropBox desktop app, which aside from the icon that lives next to the Time Machine icon in the upper right menu bar in the Finder, I'm not really sure what the dropbox desktop app is? Yes it appears in the application folder, but if I double click on it, it simply takes me to the designated dropbox folder within my User folder. Which, by the way, except for emergencies, that is the only way I work with DropBox. The primary thing I want to do is faithfully mirror the activity of the Finder “DropBox” folder on the primary MacBook and have the files and folders populate to other devices. Finally, all my posts from the last month or so started re. puzzling changes to modification dates following a migration from an old MacBook to a new one. In nearly 40 years of using a Macintosh this has been one of the most challenging technical snafus I've ever encountered. Thanks, Paul syncing icons based on this article?311Views0likes19CommentsDropbox desktop app is running, and is uploading files, but not downloading to my Mac
This is a combination of a plea for help and a complaint about the pathetic level of service I have received from Customer Support. My brand new Macs that are running Sequoia (Mac OS 15.5) are unable to download anything saved to Dropbox. At the moment, Dropbox is open and it is syncing, so my Macs are uploading files and folders when I save them to Dropbox, but I can download nothing. When I double-click on files, the correct app opens, but the file itself does not open. Everything is visible in my Dropbox (name and date, including the correct date now) and when I open the Dropbox App, it opens my Dropbox folder. Right clicking a file does not give me a menu selection to "Make available offline". Only the Dropbox App icon in a Finder Sidebar has that option, but when I select "Make available offline," I get the message, "Your device could not connect to the server. There may be a problem with the server or network." I don't get this on an old computer that is still connected to Dropbox using the very same network. I have followed instructions regarding network proxies, firewall, and malware software, and have made sure Dropbox has full disk access. I have tried everything that has been suggested and nothing has helped. I have shut off my machine and rebooted, and that has not helped. When I signed out of Dropbox as instructed and opened Dropbox and opened it, even though Dropbox is now open, the Dropbox icon no longer appears in my menu bar. I explained that fact and asked for my case to be escalated. My request was met with instructions to open the applications folder and open the Dropbox app, in the most remedial terms. I have been using Macs since 1990. I know how to open an application!!! I had already made clear the app was open. And earlier, when the Dropbox icon was still showing up in the menu bar, I shared screenshots proving that Dropbox was syncing with my Mac but that the cloud icons next to files in Dropbox did not allow for downloading files. I showed that right-clicking does not The next recommendation given to me was to uninstall the app according to Windows instructions, which was supremely unhelpful. I have been having a conversation with "Aaron" of Dropbox Support for a week now (with only one email per day in response) and nothing has been resolved. And then I get instructions for a Windows machine when I made it clear in my first message (and subsequent ones and in multiple screenshots) that I'm using a Mac. OMG. I could scream. I tried uninstalling the app the way you usually do so on a Mac, i.e., by dragging it to the trash. (I have not tried using Terminal.) When I drag the app to the trash, I get a message, "The item 'Dropbox.app' can’t be moved to the Trash because it’s open." Again, as I said, the Dropbox icon does not appear in the menu bar of my computer. I have sent at least 10-12 screenshots documenting everything and have asked for my case to be escalated and then I get remedial instructions and inapposite instructions. My most recent messages have not been replied to, presumably since it's the weekend. I need to take my new Mac on a trip with me and I can't access my most important files on it! My older Mac that has a functioning connection is not reliable and I need my new computer to function properly with Dropbox. Can anyone help me?264Views1like8CommentsWhen adding Google Drive to my device, Dropbox disappears from the start-up menu.
