What is this forced folder icon change, Dropbox? No option, no control. Dear Dropbox Team, What the heck is going on? With the latest update, Dropbox has changed how every synced folder looks on my system by adding a persistent “people” icon — even on private folders. It’s confusing, visually disruptive, and most importantly: I have no way to turn it off. This isn’t just cosmetic. You've removed a clear visual indicator I relied on to quickly distinguish shared folders from private ones. Everything now looks the same, and that’s a serious downgrade in usability. I’ve tried everything I could think of to restore control: Removed the ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers registry keys — no effect. Renamed the DropboxExt DLLs — nothing changed. Looked for the old integration toggle in Dropbox settings — it’s gone. Even checked for workarounds in system tweaks — no luck. It seems like this overlay behavior is now baked into Dropbox’s runtime integration with Explorer, and that’s extremely frustrating. I don’t appreciate losing control over how folders appear on my own computer, especially with no clear setting to disable the change. Please give users an option to turn off this new icon overlay. I’ve been a long-time Dropbox user, and I expect transparency, clarity, and — above all — control over how your software behaves on my system. Thanks for listening. I hope this is taken seriously.26Views0likes3CommentsWhy is the Dropbox app using over 700 MB of memory on my Mac computer?
Have been using Dropbox for years but lately my iMac is extremely slow. Checking the Activity Monitor from Apple, learned that Dropbox is using 747,9 MB of memory. What should be a normal value and how to get there. Help would be highly appreciated.11Views0likes1CommentMy Dropbox app on macOS 15.4.1 has stopped syncing and is stuck indexing files.
My Dropbox which have worked without problems for years have stopped syncing. It seems to get stock and, right now, after having logged out and in again it does not seem to get passed or have progress in indexing the files. I am on a MacOS 15.4.1. I recently updated. I am uncertain if the service stopped at this point as I only discovered due to Scrivener files not syncing. Any ideas about how to troubleshoot? I have been though a number of old threads, but they have not given me solutions. Kind regards Mikkel36Views0likes5CommentsWhy was the way screenshots were handled changed?
Me and my friends question what drove the people behind this software to break something intentionally like that? I work as a Quality Assurance expert, and can only see this change as sabotage. When I press "PrtSc" I want the image to be copied into my clipboard. The fact that it was saved into the screenshots folder wasn't always desired, but I could deal with it (always cleaned up that folder once a month). But now that doesn't happen. I get so many extra steps, and if I opt out of it, I'm left with nothing. Sure, I could just install a different software for making screenshots, but that seems so stupid to do, given what worked before!Solved330Views4likes19CommentsDropbox files consuming hard drive space even after switching files to online-only
Hello All, My Dropbox is consuming a lot of space on my local drive because the files are available offline. Recently, I marked all folders as "Online-Only," and I initially recovered about 40 GB of space. However, Dropbox is still occupying around 190 GB on my system. I need all folders to remain visible in File Explorer, but only as online-only files. Could anyone advise how I can free up the remaining space while keeping everything accessible in Explorer as online-only? I appreciate any insights or suggestions.18Views0likes1CommentThe new Transfer window animation is S-L-O-W!
The new Transfer Window animation where it animates the files being packaged up in a gift box is unnecessary and is adding sometimes upwards of 15 seconds while I wait for the "copy link" button to be available. This used to be a nearly instantaneous process with no delay. All of my files are already uploaded to dropbox and indicate this with a green check-mark in my dropbox folder on my mac. Then, when I choose "Transfer a Copy", and then click on "Create Link" in the bottom right of the Dropbox Transfer window that opens, I sometimes have to wait 15 seconds for the silly new animation to finish. Why? This aspect of Transfer worked perfectly before. This slow-down in functionality seems un-necessary. Please get rid of the anmiation and just allow us to get quick access to the link so we can copy it and email our clients. Thank you.45Views0likes9CommentsDropbox is taking up all of the space on my harddrive
Dropbox is killing me. I have 2TB of space on my laptop, Dropbox is taking up almost 700gb of it, despite all of my files being set to Online Only. I've also followed the steps suggested by other users to toggle "Online Only files on Mac" which appears to have done nothing. I finally resorted to deleting the Dropbox app with the intent of re-downloading it, hoping that that would clear out whatever data it is supposedly storing, but when I deleted the dropbox app, the folder in the finder window still stayed there, and is STILL showing 700gb of storage being taken up. I can't seem to get rid of it. Can anyone give me any advice?5.5KViews3likes23CommentsDropbox generating excessive cache files
I have an issue with Dropbox 166.4.2920 on macOS 12.0.1 Dropbox keeps generating utterly excessive cache files, 114GB currently on a folder that has 3.3GB of actual contents. How can I force Dropbox to clear its cache in a reasonable timeframe and not keep accumulating this?5.7KViews0likes11CommentsDropbox daemon on Ubuntu keeps asking to be installed on boot
Dropbox daemon doesn't work properly on Ubuntu since I started using it some years ago. Everytime I start my computer it asks me to install it again even when it is already installed properly from the official sources. Also it shows the loading symbol even when it is updated and I have to stop syncing and resume it to force it to stop showing this.18Views0likes1CommentI updated the desktop app to File Provider, but after logging back in, it's still not updated.
Every time when I try to update to file provider, it starts the update. The App restart and I see "Update in Progress" and then "Log out". After the logon everything is as it was before. Tried it several times, with reboot in between. MAC OS: 15.4.1 Dropbox App: 222.4.504232Views0likes5Comments
