Operating System/Browser (if using the web) (Windows 11 and Windows 10) Dropbox App Version (if using the app) (238.4.6075) Question or Issue This problem has bothered me for a while, I don't remember since when, but currently whenever I tried to save something into a Dropbox synced folder (such as a Powerpoint file or Word document) on Windows, the dropbox would start to sync all the supposedly online-only files within the folder and the syncing is really really slow. Most importantly, the syncing process would freeze the entire Save-As dialog and nothing can be done before the syncing is finished. This is not just limited to MS Office, but also other apps as well. Directly access the folder through Windows Explorer is OK. I am not sure if this is an Windows issue or a Dropbox issue. I suspect accessing the folder through an app other then Windows-Explorer would trigger Dropbox to believe you are trying to access all the files in that folder. I have updated Dropbox app to the newest version as suggested by support. And it happens on both of my desktop PC and laptop PC. Also I'd like to point out that I am accessing Dropbox through a proxy, which may explain the slow-syncing issue. Does anyone have similar experiences?33Views0likes3CommentsLogged out of the Dropbox app and back in and now I have a 'Dropbox (old)' and a 'Dropbox' folder
Application Affected Synching files Device PC Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) Windows Desktop Question or Issue Had a funny problem with the Windows Explorer status icons not all being corrected, and saw a recommended to "simply" sign out of Dropbox and sign back in. Simple enough. Which I did. I then got a pop up asking me (telling me really) to rename my Dropbox folder. I said OK, and I now have a Dropbox and Dropbox (old) in the User directory. All of my files are in (old). None are in new. Every link on my PC to my old files is now of course broken. I paused syncing because I am worried Dropbox is going to try and create an entirely new copy of all of my files in the new Dropbox folder. Does anyone know what it going on here? And how to put things back to they way they were before? Why on earth would a logout/login totally reorganize all of my files??? I'm kind of dead in the water right now so any help would be greatly appreciated. Dropbox support seems to be non-existent.22Views0likes4CommentsI have two Dropbox folders on my computer - how can I fix this?

Hi everyone. I have a Dropbox Plus plan with 2 TB of storage. My system setup is the following: AMD Ryzen 9 CPU 2 × NVMe SSDs (2 TB each), one dedicated exclusively to the Dropbox folder 32 GB DDR5 RAM (2 × 16 GB @ 6000 MHz) Swap memory initially set to 16 GB (tested up to 128 GB) The total amount of files stored locally is approximately 500 GB. Recently, I encountered the following issue: After making a minor change to the file structure (moving a folder of approximately 50 MB to a different path), the Dropbox daemon unexpectedly started a full re-indexing of all files. Within a few minutes, the Dropbox client crashes. During this process, both RAM and swap memory are fully exhausted. I attempted multiple mitigations, including increasing swap memory up to 128 GB and reducing the synced dataset to approximately 200 GB, but the result is always the same: after several minutes, the Dropbox client crashes and syncing cannot complete. This behavior makes it impossible to keep my files synchronized, despite having more than adequate hardware resources. Is this a known limitation or issue with the Linux Dropbox client, and is there any recommended solution or workaround to prevent full re-indexing and client crashes in this scenario? Thank you in advance for your assistance. Kind regards,13Views0likes1CommentHow to use more than one Dropbox account on a single computer?
Quick question — is it possible to run two Dropbox accounts on the same computer without constantly signing out or making separate user accounts? I’m not super technical, just want personal + work available without cluttering my disk — what do people actually do?14Views0likes1CommentI can't move, copy or delete content from within the Dropbox folder on my Windows 11.
Device My awesome PC Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Win11 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 238.4.6075 Question or Issue We have old/historical jpeg/photos on drop box. I am having trouble moving, copying, pasting individual photos. When I try to move, copy, delete it seems to get stuck on the attached system process -> Windows says calculating, but doesn't seem to progress further. I also cannot see a preview of these files in the thumbnail/folder, they are just blank, though newer files in the same folder do have the preview image. I am trying to move bulk files though I cannot even move individual files ATM. Its only old files that we've not opened/viewed for years. Any ideas?20Views0likes2CommentsHow can I get the Mac system folder 'Documents' into the Dropbox folder?

Device HP Desktop Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 10 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 238.4.6075 Syncing Status Up To Date Question or Issue I've not been able to find documents using search in my dropbox folder for a few weeks. I went to indexing options to remove dropbox from indexing and re-add it hoping it would rebuild the index. IT'S NOT THERE TO SELECT AT ALL!! I have my dropbox as a fold in Documents. When I go to C Users Myname Documents, dropbox is not there. I've right clicked the folder and in properties, went to advanced, UNCHECKED allow this folder to have contents indexed and applied that. Then I went back and checked it so they could be indexed and applied that. Dropbox is still not in the indexing options list of folders.220Views1like29CommentsThe new file system for the desktop app slows down the file sync
This new file system that you made me do is terrible. It take me ages to get my files to trasnfer now. Between dropbox and my desktop. Forget trying to workout of dropbox bx it just lags so bad. I have 5 computers and its doing it to all of them since this stupid update. Very diassapointed and looking at alternatives to dropbox at this point. Been a long time customer but its about to end. I never had issues until this change.11Views0likes1CommentThe desktop app is syncing forever
I am in this situation now. I have Dropbox business with 3 Tb and I have lots of files... It was fine until last week or so when I tried syncing and it syncs infinite. It starts at about 7K files and I let it run. I noticed that it will be at say 7232 files then it will jump to 7258 then start decreasing. It does this constantly but file numbers will vary. Eventually it gets to about 400 or so and it says a minute left, then it jumps back up to 800 and the process repeats over and over... Looking at the sync and storage in the app. It shows that I have like 5% of the dropbox on harddrive. This is not the case. I have it all on the drive so there is something rotten here. I've wasted way too much time on this and nothing works. I'll probably stop using this and go with a RAID system internally and swap out drives and periodically store one off site.31Views0likes2Comments
