This new update has messed how my Dropbox works on Desktop too. I also get the 'syncing' symbol on all of my folders, and for some reason Dropbox has decided that it needs to Sync all ~80,000 files all over again despite the fact that I already had everything set up perfectly how I like it and all the files that I needed for offline/online use were already set. It's taken about 2.5 hours out of my work day so far because it's clogging up all my time trying to get this mess sorted.564Views5likes18CommentsNewest Dropbox update automatically setting files to online-only on Windows.
Why are my files now being automatically set to online only with the newest update? This is the most idiotic thing Dropbox has done yet. I don't care if there is a new interface on my desktop. I do care if now all the files I thought were actually on my HD are now gone. Thanks for wasting my bandwidth as I re-download countless GB of data I want on my HD. I use Dropbox as one of my backup sites, and very occassionally for synching. I don't care if Windows now has a feature that does what Dropbox does. I use Dropbox because it is independent of my operating system. The more Dropbox attempts to emulate Windows, the less useful it is to me. I've used Dropbox for over a decade, and now I'm going to look for somewhere else on the cloud to backup my data (in addition to my spare HD). I don't know if I'll find it, but wish me luck because Dropbox is less and less useful every year, and now it actively makes my life more difficult.188Views0likes5CommentsMust I sync all my Dropbox folders locally before I can tell it to be "online only" ?
Application Affected dropbox Device Mac Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Mac OS sequoia/tahoe Dropbox App Version (if using the app) latest Question or Issue ok so Im hoping this is just me not understanding dropbox but I've asked support who couldn't seem to work it out either so here goes. I have 1TB of dropbox files I have a mac with a 512GB internal drive with other solutions, I select Online-Only mode during setup and only placeholder files are synced to the internal drive which takes next to no space. The actual files are then downloaded as and when I use them. All good. With dropbox, when I install the app, it wants to sync everything. Then I could go through each folder saying "online only" which should free up the space but a) that's a waste of time waiting for it to download and b) I dont have the space to do sync it all locally. Sure, I can choose which folders to sync during setup, but then the other folders & files don't show at all versus what I expected, placeholder files. I asked support who said well that's just how it works, you have to sync everything before you can tell it only store certain files/folders online. They suggested external drives large enough to sync everything etc Is that really how it works or am I missing something stupidly obvious (very possible ;-) ) Really hoping someone has some magical solution here because of all the cloud storage solutions, dropbox has always felt fast and reliable to me but it's a non-starter if I have to do an initial huge sync on every new device. Thanks in advance :), Keith97Views0likes3CommentsInstructions don't match what I see when trying to download CSV file with my passwords

Hi Team, We are 3rd party patch provider like PatchMyPC or ManageEngine. We are providing similar services to our customers. We are willing to add latest "Dropbox" release to our catalogue and need help on below queries. The latest version of Dropbox 226.4.5094 offline installer has superfluous added in the name. Is this a stable version? Will the name for Windows 10 or later offline installers have superfluous in its name in future releases? Thanks & Regards, Metadata, Adaptiva.Solved490Views0likes14CommentsMoving Dropbox files from old disk to new on same machine, w/o re-downloading files.
Hello, I have a machine that has all of the Dropbox files (just under 1.6 tb) on an external USB 3.0 disk that is running extremely slow. I plan to replace the slow disk with a new and much faster, external SSD. The original disk has the full set of files that match what's on the Dropbox cloud. I can copy the entire tree to the new disk, but don't want to have to re-download everything from the Dropbox cloud, that would seem to be very unnecessary. Looking for exact steps to follow please. Thank you. Jerry125Views0likes2CommentsHow can I download all of my files on my Windows device?
It changed! I have been a Dropbox box user for a long time now – so with the pending EOL of window 10, I got a new computer. One of the first tasks was to install dropbox —to my surprise “it is not your father’s dropbox anymore” First it would not let me use an existing “dropbox” folder that I copied from another computer – my option was to pick a new location or have the folder renamed So I pick the rename. I picked the advanced option, for selected sync I selected everything – the process continued – and finished quickly. To my surprise there was no data on the drive – it was all set up as “smart sync” – not what I wanted. So, my question today is that if open, read 1 byte and close each file, will that force the file to be resident on the hard drive?116Views0likes3Comments
