Dropbox Backup
723 TopicsHow to remove desktop from dropbox
Somehow, all links on my laptop Desktop were copied to a Dropbox folder called "Desktop"; if I did it, it was accidental I don't know why I need that and when I delete the Desktop folder in Dropbox, all the icons disappear from the computer desktop. I assume some kind of sync issue. What I am doing wrong? I only use Dropbox for sharing files so this is a new problem for me. Hello, My goal was to use dropbox to backup the stuff on my computer, but need more clarification on how the syncing works. I'll list my questions below: 1. Can I upload a folder from my computer to dropbox, and then delete the folder from my computer without it also be deleted from dropbox? My goal is to use dropbox as a backup. 2. If folders are syncing between my computer and dropbox, and my laptop were to crash, would I lose all of the content in dropbox? 3. Is it possible to save content from my computer on dropbox without syncing, and still have it be visible on the dropbox on my computer? Thanks in advance!Solved24KViews4likes10CommentsHidden .dropbox_bi folder storing 87GB of files locally!
Hi, I've just recently set up a new Dropbox Professional account. After installing the desktop app on my Mac I also set up a backup of my external SSD, which completed successfully yesterday. Standard Dropbox file sync seems to be working fine, and the Dropbox app says everything is up to date, but for some reason I now have a new hidden folder under my Mac user folder called .dropbox_bi. That folder is storing 87GB of files on my primary SSD, apparently related to the 220GB of data backed up from the external SSD. Is this my life now? Or is there some way to recover that massive waste of precious primary SSD storage space?Solved23KViews2likes92CommentsBe able to change Dropbox backup folders names on individual accounts
Add possibility of rename Backup folders. If you have only one computer, it go fine, but if you have more than one, it ends being very confussing. Due iCloud Drive issues, I've changed all of my Macs "synchronized" Desktop and Documents to Dropbox. However, take a look to the picture: It is very difficult to guess what is what. With the possibility to rename them, I could have named "My iMac", "My MBP 13", "My MBP 15". Very easy to see what is what. (As a workaround, we can change to detail view, but could be more easy for all of us be able to change the names).23KViews82likes88CommentsAirDrop broken on MacOS Ventura
I'm using MacOS Ventura and I can't receive files via AirDrop anymore. My Downloads folder is inside my Dropbox as I'm using Dropbox Backup, so it is all inside the Cloud Library now. The Spotlight Search is broken and now also I can't receive airdropped files anymore. They are sending but afterwards they are just nowhere to be found on the hard-drive. It's quite the mess. @DropboxTeam: It would be highly appreciated if you can expedite looking into resolving the issues on Ventura!Solved21KViews16likes98CommentsUnlimited cloud backup on Dropbox with a Synology NAS. Is this possible?
Hello all, Apologies for the repost if so but I need help understanding the functionality of the cloud tech and services. My goal is to have an unlimited cloud backup on Dropbox of my Synology NAS archive. Does Dropbox Back-Up support that? Details: I have a Synology NAS 4-bay. I use it for personal archives and some client collaboration (photo and video). I want to use Dropbox for client collaboration instead and reserve Synology for personal archive and backblaze as cloud back-up for the archive (which also includes client work). Mostly because the Synology is currently via wifi and is too slow for collaborating but okay for archive. While making a personal Dropbox account I saw Dropbox Back-up allows unlimited space for backing up. I thought this might be useful and perhaps an alternative to backblaze for the back-ups need (in addition to the personal account for collaboration needs) Then I saw this, "Files on your PC or Mac are continuously backed up to the cloud." Does Dropbox Back-Up support syncing all Synology NAS files with unlimited space or only the local computer and external drive? Is this how this works or am I thinking about this wrong? Edit: Synology has Hyper Backup where you can sync to Dropbox. Do I start there and work back to Dropbox Backup unlimited plan?Solved20KViews0likes5CommentsMoving Synced Data To External SSD Drive & Backing Up That Drive
To free up space on my notebook and assist in my DAW performance, I'm using a new external SSD drive to directly write new files too and I want to move my large existing files (already uploaded to Dropbox) to this new drive. I am trying to move these large audio files from my notebook Dropbox folders which become ultimately available "online only", to the external SSD drive then want to back this drive up using Dropbox Backup. The issue I am having is that to move the existing "online only" files they are needing to be downloaded first, then copied to the new external drive and then, once I click to back the new external SSD drive up, will be uploaded back to DBx Backup facility. This process is clogging up my notebook to the point it' going to take days and can' do too much on it. Question: Is there a way to move these "online only" [already uploaded] files directly to the Backup folder one time only to save downloading them, copying to the new drive, then re-uploading the same files??? Maybe I am missing something very easy?? is there a better way? Can i sync two drives instead, maybe?? Many thanks in advance.Solved16KViews0likes5CommentsTurning on dropbox backup but folder name is weird
I had tested the Dropbox Backup feature in the past so I know that when turned on my Computers should be added as My Mac (Unique Mac Name). I decided to turn it back on again when setting up two new Macs that I have but the backup now creates the folders as just Mac, Mac (2), Mac (3) I've gone through the steps of unlinking Dropbox from each computer. Checking their names in System Preferences and also in the Security tab of my Dropbox account. The computer names are correct in Dropbox but the backup feature is still creating the folders as just MacSolved15KViews10likes56CommentsCan't redirect into reparse point please choose different target path
So, I uninstalled Dropbox. Now I find that my folders; Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, and God knows what else are all set to my Dropbox folder. When I go to 'restore' these folders to their correct, default Windows 10 path, I get the above error message. This is outrageous. What is the solution?Solved15KViews0likes67Comments
