Dropbox Backup
44 TopicsHidden .dropbox_bi folder storing 87GB of files locally!
Hi, I've just recently set up a new Dropbox Professional account. After installing the desktop app on my Mac I also set up a backup of my external SSD, which completed successfully yesterday. Standard Dropbox file sync seems to be working fine, and the Dropbox app says everything is up to date, but for some reason I now have a new hidden folder under my Mac user folder called .dropbox_bi. That folder is storing 87GB of files on my primary SSD, apparently related to the 220GB of data backed up from the external SSD. Is this my life now? Or is there some way to recover that massive waste of precious primary SSD storage space?Solved23KViews2likes92CommentsDropbox backup - I never asked for it, but it busted my storage limit
Hi, I've been using Dropbox Basic for about 10 years. About a year ago, to get more (free and EU-based) space, I signed up for pCloud, which also allowed me to back up Dropbox. All good, until recently I started getting limit warnings from DB. I moved files over to pCloud, where I still have plenty of space, but my DB storage tally didn't go down. I discovered, by searching on the internet, that in fact DB backup was simultaneously backing up my pCloud files (!). Deleting the DB backup brought my storage tally right down to where it belonged. My question is: DB backup is a paid service. I did not sign up for it or consent to it at any time. I wasn't even aware it existed. Having it working away in the background has caused a lot of confusion, with backups of backups of backups. I regard my files on Dropbox as already backed up because they're on my hard drive as well as the cloud. What is the difference between files in regular Dropbox and files backed up by DB? Having two cloud storage systems on the go at once is a recipe for disaster. Thanks!3.9KViews0likes10CommentsUnlimited storage, backups and large files
Hi Guys, I have a question about the use of Dropbox. We now use Google Drive to sync and backup our computers. We are a video company with a lot of large video files to sync current projects and backup old projects which don't have to be on our computers anymore. Google changed policy for unlimited space, we need to transfer to another service. What we need: - aprox 100TB storage. - unlimited file size up/download with max speed - backup of local computers - ability to have a non-synced backup of selected folders. For unlimited time. - backup files on a external Mac disk. Will this work with Dropbox Advanced? Thanks!2.9KViews0likes5CommentsI deleted some files and dropbox still full

Hello, Dropbox has backed up some folders on my pc, saturating my dropbox space. I deleted these files on Dropbox backup, turned off the backup of folders through the desktop app but Dropbox keeps backing up from these folders and warns me that there is no more space. Tips? Thanks in advanceSolved2.5KViews0likes20CommentsDropbox full after accidentally backing up a large USB disk
Due to an unwanted synchronisation of a large USB disk my 2Gb space is full. The synchronisation was aborted but now I can't reclaim the space occupied (I can't see any file in the desktop app). Is there a solution without upgrading?Solved2.4KViews0likes2CommentsMy desktop files are still in my Dropbox folder, even though I disabled backup
Hi, I'm having problems with dropbox back up. I am trying to get it to stop backing up my folders. I have stopped it in preferences in the desktop app, and right now the options are to turn backups on, so i'm assuming it thinks that its not backing up. However i still have backups in my dropbox folder alongside hundreds of folders called Mac (2) (Selective Sync Conflict 212), I know longer have space in my dropbox because of this issue. Anyone got any ideas? Driving me nuts!Solved2.1KViews0likes11CommentsMy storage is full, and I have issues deleting my Backup, can't get it right.
Hi I'm becoming quite frustrated as my storage space is full even though I've deleted most of the files. I think the backup is the issue, but I've followed all the links to deleting backups but nothing works. One suggestion took me to a page with this wording: "To delete your computer backup: Click the Dropbox icon in your taskbar (Windows) or menu bar (Mac). Click the Sync and Backups tab." I don't have this option - clicking on the icon gives me two tabs - Sync History or Activity, neither of which give me the delete options. I set up my DropBox account a long time ago on an old pc. Deleting a backup should really be a simple task but in my opinion DropBox make it difficult to encourage people to upgrade. This policy has actually pushed me the other way. I'd really appreciate someone from DropBox showing me how I do this, please.Solved2.1KViews0likes10Comments
