Can I upload from a external Hard drive straight to drop box? It’s plugged into the computer and I can see the files when I look at it but when I try to upload to Dropbox it says there are no files there? I don’t have the space to transfer to computer and then upload so not sure where to go from here as I need all those files in my drop boxSolved5.4KViews0likes4CommentsPhotoshop won't save for web unless Dropbox Desktop & Documents backup disabled
This issue affects Adobe Photoshop and the Dropbox backup features on Mac Big Sur. When the Desktop and Documents are selected as Personal backup folders, it seems to mess up the Adobe permissions, so that the Save for Web option in Photoshop doesn't work. Only when you deselect the Desktop and Documents backup options do the permissions reset. Not sure if this is a Dropbox problem or Adobe problem. I found the solution in the Adobe forums here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/p-save-for-web-error-a-write-permissions-error-has-occurred-photoshop-22-1-1/m-p/11747734 Would be good if we could fix this so I can continue to back up my Desktop and Documents folders.6.3KViews2likes9CommentsUnderstanding Dropbox Backup
I am a scientist that has used Dropbox (DB) for about 12 years. I have a 2TB family plan and only have used 15% of it. My OS is Mac Sierra (10.12.6) with 32GB of RAM. I use the Finder a lot more than most Mac Users. My DB files are in a subfolder of my user (home) folder. Here are my 2 questions: 1. In the past I was told that only the desktop and files in documents can be backed up with DB backup. Is this still true or can my hard drive folders and files in my User (Home) folder be backup up with the new DB upgrades? 2. Given my work and the long time I have used DB, I have 250 GB within the DB main folder (with many subfolders and files. Will the backup, after it initially syncs, slow my computer's operations by eating up a lot of User memory, or is this an incremental backup that rapidly updates those new folders and files (the way SuperDuper does and also Time Machine). I cannot afford to have a slow computer due to RAM consumption.Solved8.3KViews0likes8CommentsCan't redirect into reparse point please choose different target path
So, I uninstalled Dropbox. Now I find that my folders; Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, and God knows what else are all set to my Dropbox folder. When I go to 'restore' these folders to their correct, default Windows 10 path, I get the above error message. This is outrageous. What is the solution?Solved15KViews0likes67CommentsDropbox keeps on trying to upload 'dbx.external.drive' on MacOS 15.6
Hi. I've tried to clear out all of my backups from Dropbox. I was previously backing up two external drives, but I don't want to do that anymore. So I've deleted the drives from the Backup Manager page, no problem. But when I hit 'Sync' on my Dropbox app, it's creating a file under .dropbox/logs/1 that fills with small files until my entire hard drive is full. I went in and deleted all of these files once (144GB!), which didn't seem to affect functionality of anything, then it immediately went to fill it back up again. The only file it says "Syncing" in the app is dbx.external.drive. I'm on a Dropbox Professional Plan, using a Mac Studio running 15.6 Sequoia. Question or Issue I have a lot of data on Dropbox related to my research. I would like to keep a back up somewhere other than Dropbox. All recommendations on the internet suggest that I make the folder available offline (i.e. save it to local drive) and then back it up to external drive. Unfortunately, my computer's hard drive is now too small. Is there any solution other than downloading in batches? It is very tedious to do this one folder at a time, especially if I want to back up regularly. I looked into possibly syncing Drobox directly with a large external drive but I see on forums that is not recommended because if the external drive gets disconnected for some reason, Dropbox can interpret that as files being deleted on the local drive and in the next sync delete everything on the cloud. That is a risk I cannot take.Solved186Views0likes5CommentsBackup external hard drive on multiple computers
I just started using Backup with my external HDD which has 3+ terabytes on it. I started the process on my main computer but since this is going to take a long time (I can’t keep my hard drive plugged into it all day) I thought about plugging the hard drive into my other computer, which also had Dropbox on it, and continue the upload there. Is this possible?? When I’m on the other computer (not the one I started the external drive backup with) it doesn’t show the external drive, but it does show the other computer. Would be very nice if the drive could be backed up/resumed on a separate computer under the same account. Another question: what happens when the external drive breaks and I need to recover all 3+ terabytes to f data? Does Dropbox have a function that lets you download that amount somehow?1.2KViews0likes6CommentsI plugged an external drive to my computer, but it's backing up 0% to Dropbox
I've recently signed up with Dropbox Backup and added my external hard drive. I enabled backup for this drive, and selected 'Backup Now' rather than waiting for it to schedule a backup at 9am tomorrow morning. Since doing so the drive remains at 90-100% usage, but not a single file has been uploaded in over 4 hours. It shows 0 bytes transferred in the Dropbox app. How do I get it to do it's job and actually start the backup?1.2KViews1like14Comments
