Since the recent Dropbox update, I can no longer search for files in Dropbox on my Mac. I have been using Dropbox for over 10 years and have never had this problem before. It's making life extremely difficult and making me think about moving entirely to Google Drive, although I don't really like Google that much. But at least it's free, whereas I am now paying Dropbox for a less functional service than I had previously. Does anyone know how to get this function back?Solved12KViews10likes56CommentsAdvanced search based on key phrases
I seriously need advanced searching. Dropbox used to have these features (like search exact phrase) in 2015, but somehow removed them. So how can I do advanced searching in dropbox? Like: List files with age between x and y Contain the phrase "a b c" are of type *.pdf ...Solved15KViews10likes52CommentsIs there a fix if my Dropbox file download keeps failing?
Every time I try to download a file I get a failed status in Chrome or Safari. When I download in Firefox it fails, however Firefox allows me to "restart" the download and it begins again where it left off... so I can complete the download by repeating this as many times as necessary per file. Very annoying. For a larger file (say 4 GB) I had to do this "restart" in Firefox 4-5 times before the file reached the end of the download and completed successfully. I see this is an on-going issue for Dropbox for several years - is there an indication as to waht is causing this? Going to have to ditch the service altogether if there is no real fix. Device Custom desktop - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X - 64GB RAM - Samsung SSD 980 PRO 1TB Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Pro 24H2 Dropbox App Version/Browser Version 229.4.5197 Question or Issue As I try to navigate my Dropbox folder in Windows or view any file (regardless of size) there is about a 10-15 second delay before it does anything. I can almost log into the web version of Dropbox and access the file faster than I can clicking on a single folder directly in Windows. This has been happening for a year or so now. I reinstalled Dropbox a month or two ago, switched to the Windows Store version and just reinstalled the normal desktop app version today. It is still occurring. I don't have iCloud installed or use OneDrive, I've tried reinstalling Dropbox about 3 times now. Is there a way to tell what is causing it to run so slow? Or what is causing it to run slow?1.5KViews3likes46CommentsSearching Not Working on iPadOS Files app
Hi, According to this link: https://help.dropbox.com/installs-integrations/mobile/ios-files-app I should be able to search for stuff in the current dropbox folder when accessing it from the iPadOS built-in Files app. But unfortunately this is not working for me. No matter what I search for, the result is always empty, even if there's only one file in the folder. I'm using the latest iPadOS and Dropbox app for ipad. Any idea how I can fix this? Thanks!12KViews2likes78CommentsFull-text-search not working for Plus
Hi, I'm currently trying the Plus plan in order to substitute my Evernote account. One of the needed features is the "full-text-search" and as stated in dropbox webpage: "If you're a Dropbox Plus, Professional, or Business user, you have access to a feature called full-text search, which can find files by file name, extension, or keyword within the file." However, I haven't been able to find anything on PDF or txt files (tried website and dropbox app). Is this feature really working for Plus plan? Does it work for IOS too? Thank you!Solved4.2KViews2likes9CommentsAccents in plain txt files incorrectly displayed
I saved some accented and umlauted characters in a plain txt file using mac with UTF-8 encoding under a dropbox folder, and when opening it using dropbox in a browser or on an ios dropbox app, the acccented characters are incorrectly displyed, i.e. ignroed or replaced with something wierd. Conversely when I saved a plain txt file with accents using ios dropbox app, the plain text file opens in Mac Textedit with incorrect accents. Is there a way to set the plain text file so that accents and umlauts are interepreted correctly on both my Mac and dropbox app/online viewing through a browser?3.5KViews2likes10CommentsI can't open files with random extensions as text files anymore.
I previously submitted idea for Dropbox to offer option to open as a text file if it didn’t recognize the file extension. For a short time, I did get a dialog box offering to open as a text file. Worked very well, particularly for Arduino files .ino and .pde. It no longer works. As a programmer, there are an infinite number of text file extensions. Unless Dropbox is going to learn all possible extensions, let the user decide to open the file as text. The user knows what he needs.75Views1like1Comment
