Twice in the last 7 weeks I've been completely unable to save a document. I've tried renaming it, and it won't rename-- it just stays as the original name. No error message. The system "blinks" and reverts back to the original name each time I go to "save as" and try to update the file name. The side box pops up each time: "Meet the dropbox badge" as if I've opened a new file. The document continues to say it was last updated 3 months ago when I just did 30 minutes of work on it this morning and tried to save it repeatedly. I can save my Word doc as a pdf-- that's the only saving I can do. But, that means I can't open it up and continue to work on it later this afternoon. I primarily use the desktop app. However, the file is not saving online, either. It is not the same file that had this same problem in early March, making me worry that I could lose work on any file at any time. There was no warning that something was wrong with the file when I started working on it. I'm afraid to close the document now for fear of losing my work. What can I do?? This is a Windows 11 computer. No other issues have occurred with it. Last time, Dropbox said this happened because the system had a recent update. However, that is not the case this time!76Views0likes2CommentsQuestions about Dropbox vs OneDrive
I have a Microsoft Surface, windows 11, iphone and ipad. I've had Dropbox for many, many years since the first computer person set it up. I still have it and am paying for it. My new computer person has set me up for everything to go into OneDrive. Are they backing up the same information? What happens to the data in Dropbox if I cancel it? Will it all be in OneDrive? Thank you in advance for helping me out!23Views0likes2CommentsHow to safely remove shared folder from hard drive, owned by a student who graduated and left?
I am a professor at University of Florida (I need to use my personal email here, it never worked with UF email). All my graduate students and I all use Dropbox. Each student has a project folder shared with me, so that when they graduate I have access to the files for future use. Now, if a new student comes, and I pass the previous student computer to him/her, the project folder is still in the computer. How can we safely remove that shared folder from the hard drive and keep them on the web (and my computer)? The old student UF account is disabled so the files cannot be made online only by the old student (and he left anyways). I can access the folder on that pc with my UF account. I can delete the folders manually, which should be safe since in my UF account my dropbox folder is synced, not theirs. But would would happen if the old student decides to come back to work for me as a post doc (or it was a master student who wanna work as a Phd student) some time in the future, their UF account is reactivated, and the PC is given back to them? would the project folder be lost? Dropbox Plan Basic Device Acer Laptop Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) Files kept in Dropbox folder on each PC laptop Question or Issue Most of the file shortcuts on one of my laptops have stopped working. They have no associated icon, and when double-clicked, the destination file is not opened. When I right-click on the Dropbox app icon at the bottom of the screen, above the Dropbox item, there was an item consisting of a mysterious series of symbol characters (see screen captures below). I have unpinned it from the list, but the problem still persists. I can open the shortcuts, however, via the Dropbox App. Thank you for your help. Device M2 Macbook Pro Operating System/Browser (if using the web) macOS 15.6.1 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 235.4.5905 Question or Issue I've got a folder of files that I store on an external hard drive that I'd like to have constantly syncing to dropbox so that I can easily share them while on the go etc with people. I can see that the backup option exists and will let me back these files up, but it says it won't then let me then share those files. This is a folder I'm constantly generating new files into, so a one off upload won't work, and I need to be able to generate a sharing link for these files. Is this possible with Dropbox currently?Solved87Views0likes2CommentsConflicted copies of files even when I'm the only one editing them
Has anyone else run into issues where Dropbox creates multiple âconflicted copyâ versions of the same file â even when youâre the only one editing? I love Dropbox for sharing and backups, but the sync conflict problem has been a headache lately, especially with large folders or shared projects. How are you all handling it? Do you use version history, third-party tools, or just manual cleanup? Would love to hear how others deal with this daily frustration.82Views0likes3Comments
