Folders
64 TopicsSuddenly cant create multiple folders at once
I use dropbox online for work. We have to create multiple folders a day for multiple clients. For years now, the easiest thing to do has been to click "Create Folder" and then use /'s to tack on the rest of the folders within. So for example Client Name/Current Policies/Address/Policy Name In doing so, the Policy Name folder would be created inside the Address folder, and so on with the Client Name folder being the main folder in the tree. This was working for me just yesterday. Today, when I try to create folders in that manner, I get this error: The following characters are not allowed: \ / I'm assuming this is some new implementation, though I cannot for the life of me figure out why they feel it would be necessary to do so. Creating each folder in the tree one by one is tedious and time-consuming and cannot possibly go over well with the plethora of businesses that do their work through dropbox and have to regularly create multiple client folders. Anyway, my question is, is there a workaround, or another way to create multiple folders that I'm missing? For reference, I cannot use the app version on my computer; I have to use the online version.107Views1like6CommentsMy Dropbox app is stuck syncing files on Windows 11 after an advanced reinstall.
Device Desktop PC Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Pro Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 237.4.5655 My desktop app has been stuck syncing for about a week. We ran out of space on our work Dropbox network (80TB used). I freed up around 20TB of space and all PC's on the network apart from mine successfully (after some time) synced the changes. Mine however was stuck at 5.5 million files syncing. I left it to do its thing for several days with no change. So I followed the "advanced reinstall" instructions on this page https://help.dropbox.com/installs/advanced-reinstall. The reinstall was successful and it seemed as though things were moving again. However for the last few days I've been stuck with between 12,000 and 16,000 files syncing. The number gradually goes up day to day. I'm working on Dropbox still, as are my colleagues so this may be why. I have to manually download my colleagues files and place them where they should be syncing before using them. When I hover my mouse over the DB icon in the system tray it says its downloading the 16k files, uploading around 40 files. But very little download up upload bandwidth is actually being used. I have a gigabit connection so I don't believe its actually doing much at all on the network. How can I fix this? We have around 60TB of files on our DB network and I have around 500GB of that synced at any given time. Thanks for any assistance!183Views1like18CommentsI can't change the Dropbox folder location on Windows; it keeps reverting to the C drive.
Application Affected Dropbox Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11, Question or Issue I recently had to set up a new user profile on my PC. I previously had my dropbox folder location set to D:\Dropbox but when set up the new user profile and re-installed dropbox, it changed the location to within the user profile (c:\users\username\dropbox). I tried changing location (using Preferences > Sync > Dropbox folder location), and each time I try it looks as though it has worked, but then reverts back to the C drive location. I tried deleting the old dropbox folder on the D drive, and changing location again, still the same process - it says it's been successful and resyncs the files, but then when I open the dropbox location it has reverted back to the C drive. Any guidance gratefully received!54Views0likes4CommentsNot seeing a few folders in Dropbox in Windows Explorer on a new laptop
I moved to Windows11 on a new laptop and cannot see 3 of 20 folders in Dropbox from Explorer. I can see them on my old laptop File Explorer and can also see them in Dropbox on my browser on my new laptop.Solved91Views0likes4CommentsHow can I make all of my folders available offline on Windows? There's no option for that.
Device Acer desktop PC Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 10 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 235.4.5905 Syncing Status Up to date Question or Issue I have only just noticed this and I think it has changed. Scenario A A few folders in my Dropbox are marked with a white tick on a green background. I believe these folders are available offline. i.e stored on my hard drive. Right mouse gives me the option to 'Make online only'. Scenario B Most folders in my Dropbox are marked with a green tick on a white background. I believe these folders are online only. i.e. NOT stored on my hard drive. Right mouse gives me the option to 'Make online only'. There is NOT an option to make Offline. I have a laptop on Windows 11 sync'd to exactly the same Dropbox and all folders follow Scenario A. i.e. are stored on my laptop's hard drive I want ALL folders on my home PC to be on the hard drive, i.e. as per Scenario A ThanksSolved102Views0likes6CommentsDropbox and shared tiny URL?
https://www.dropboxforum.com/discussions/101001014/why-cant-we-shorten-shared-link-urls-on-dropbox/792685 Once upon a time, a user started a discussion about shortening URL. Some two years later. Does the community made progress in being able to work with shorter URL? Do we depend on third parties for doing that? Just now, I was sharing a folder and the URL consists of 127 characters. Nobody is going to click on something like that. Are we now able to work with Tiny URL, or Friendly URL, or Semantic URL?33Views0likes1CommentThere's no distinct sync icon for folders containing both online-only and offline files on Win11.
Device (PC and Laptop) Operating System/Browser (if using the web) (Windows 11) Dropbox App Version 233.4.4938 After icon change I can't find a way to see if folder contains files that are both online-only and available offline. Even if folder contains folder or files that are offline (downloaded) it still shows up as online. In order to figure out what is synced or not you have to go folder by folder. I have ten of thousands of folders. This new icon system is broken.86Views1like4CommentsCan't remove my access from a shared folder since I don't have the option.
Question or Issue I want to remove my access from a shared folder, where I am an editor to save up space (without deleting the shared folder for anyone else). I followed the advice from here: https://help.dropbox.com/share/leave-shared-folder. The problem is that from "manage permissions", I don't have the dropdown menu, where I can click "remove my access" (I am KA on the screenshot). I tried this on my Dropbox windows app and also from the browser website but I still can't do it. When I select delete on the said folder, it only offers to delete the shared folder for everyone. Is there any way I can remove the shared folder for myself so that it stays for others? Thanks for any help.114Views0likes3CommentsI see two sync icons next to my folders, even though there are no online-only files within.
Hi, I just upgraded to Dropbox on File Provider which uses the native MacOS file sync APIs. I like my files stored locally, so I changed the Default Sync Preference to Available offline. As this only affects new files, I also went to the root Dropbox folder in Finder and set it to Make available offline via the right-click context menu. Dropbox then started re-sync-ing all my folders and files. Problem Once the file sync was complete, every folder (top level and below) showed a green tick but also showed the Only available online icon (a white cloud with a black outline and down arrow, as shown here). The files in each folder however were available offline (no icon). This help article (same as the prev link) says that the cloud icon will show next to a folder when "There is at least one online-only file in the folder". However there are no online-only files in these folders, even though it appears that Dropbox thinks there is. This feels like a bug??? Interestingly, if I duplicate one of these online-only folders (Cmd+D in Finder), the newly duplicated folder has exactly the same contents, but correctly shows no icon, ie. it's properly an offline folder. Other brand new folders are also correctly set to be available offline. Work around I could probably work around this by duplicating my entire Dropbox contents, top-level folder by top-level folder but then I'd have to a) re-sync everything (12GB+ so not a huge amount) and b) re-configure all my folder level shares which is a bit of a pain. But I don't think I should have to. Any answers Dropbox folks? What am I doing wrong? Thanks. Setup MacBook Pro 14 / MacOS Sequoia 15.6.1 / Dropbox v231.4.5770Solved225Views0likes8Comments
