62 TopicsCan't access shared link. Getting an error that the link has been deleted.
I have been trying to open a dropbox link shared to me. This is a link that was sent by somebody to the person who sent it to me; they have just passed it on. They can access and use the files on the link, but I cannot. Originally I was sent a HTML file in which I can see the files and press the links to open the individual files, but then I get the following error: 'You don't have access. You can ask the person who shared the link to invite you directly.' I have now been passed on the exact link that was sent to the person who sent it to me, who again can open the files fine. I get the following error: 'This link has been deleted. The owner of this link has deleted or disabled this link. You cannot access it at this time.' I think is the more important error to consider as the html file may cause permission errors etc. I have tried everything on Safari, Firefox and Google Chrome and have logged into two different accounts and tried being logged out too. If I am not logged in, and I remove anything past 'rlkey' in the link, it tells me that I can sign up for free and that to keep the file secure it needs to confirm my identity, with the name of the folder included etc. I think possibly as well as being sent the link, the original person may have been added directly to the folder? However if I don’t have access, why does the link tell me it’s been deleted when the other person can still access it right now. They have told me this is all they have been sent. This link is being emailed to many people every month as it is a work resource for a tour. Any help is much appreciated128Views0likes2CommentsSome folders are not available for syncing to my Dropbox folder in the sync options
Device Mac Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Sequoia 15.6.1 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) ?? Syncing Status "Up to date" Question or Issue My son's business uses Dropbox. I also use Dropbox personally. The business has shared many folders with me. When I go into my sync options, not all the folders shared with me by the business show up as options to be sync'd. Why would some folders be available for syncing and others are not?43Views0likes2CommentsError when trying to create a top level folder from my local Dropbox folder
This is still going on? I cannot create a top level folder through Windows file explorer, even though I am the owner of the account? People have been bitching about this for at least a year. Logging in to the website just to create a folder is cumbersome and aggravating. It used to work through explorer, why did that change? You should change it back, it doesn't seem like it would be difficult and would result in fewer complaints and possible departures to other cloud options.I only want to manually back up static folders to Dropbox, without the app syncing all the time.
Device: Macbook Air Operating System/Browser (if using the web): Sonoma 14.6.1 Syncing Status: paused indefinitely Question or Issue: I want to use Dropbox as a backup for folders, manually uploaded by me intermittently. I do not want it to be syncing with my computer. When I installed the app it began trying to sync with folders on the computer, which is not what I want. But when I tried to upload via the chrome browser it kept failing for large folders. (This is rather absurd. If the browser version can't handle it large folders then the app should be able to.) I just want to be able to back up (e.g.) my Documents folder or some subset of it, from time to time, with a date on it, as a static backup. I don't want to work from dropbox, I don't want it to be syncing constantly with my computer. How do I do this? I don't need "why are you doing this, why not just sync?" I don't want to. I don't trust such syncs. I don't want a problem with dropbox to possibly propagate downward into my local files. (You can say this is unlikely -- I don't care, I want it impossible.) Thanks.104Views0likes2CommentsMy Dropbox app is stuck syncing files on Windows 11 after an advanced reinstall.
Device Desktop PC Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Pro Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 237.4.5655 My desktop app has been stuck syncing for about a week. We ran out of space on our work Dropbox network (80TB used). I freed up around 20TB of space and all PC's on the network apart from mine successfully (after some time) synced the changes. Mine however was stuck at 5.5 million files syncing. I left it to do its thing for several days with no change. So I followed the "advanced reinstall" instructions on this page https://help.dropbox.com/installs/advanced-reinstall. The reinstall was successful and it seemed as though things were moving again. However for the last few days I've been stuck with between 12,000 and 16,000 files syncing. The number gradually goes up day to day. I'm working on Dropbox still, as are my colleagues so this may be why. I have to manually download my colleagues files and place them where they should be syncing before using them. When I hover my mouse over the DB icon in the system tray it says its downloading the 16k files, uploading around 40 files. But very little download up upload bandwidth is actually being used. I have a gigabit connection so I don't believe its actually doing much at all on the network. How can I fix this? We have around 60TB of files on our DB network and I have around 500GB of that synced at any given time. Thanks for any assistance!416Views1like20CommentsSuddenly cant create multiple folders at once
I use dropbox online for work. We have to create multiple folders a day for multiple clients. For years now, the easiest thing to do has been to click "Create Folder" and then use /'s to tack on the rest of the folders within. So for example Client Name/Current Policies/Address/Policy Name In doing so, the Policy Name folder would be created inside the Address folder, and so on with the Client Name folder being the main folder in the tree. This was working for me just yesterday. Today, when I try to create folders in that manner, I get this error: The following characters are not allowed: \ / I'm assuming this is some new implementation, though I cannot for the life of me figure out why they feel it would be necessary to do so. Creating each folder in the tree one by one is tedious and time-consuming and cannot possibly go over well with the plethora of businesses that do their work through dropbox and have to regularly create multiple client folders. Anyway, my question is, is there a workaround, or another way to create multiple folders that I'm missing? For reference, I cannot use the app version on my computer; I have to use the online version.Solved213Views1like9CommentsI can't change the Dropbox folder location on Windows; it keeps reverting to the C drive.
Application Affected Dropbox Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11, Question or Issue I recently had to set up a new user profile on my PC. I previously had my dropbox folder location set to D:\Dropbox but when set up the new user profile and re-installed dropbox, it changed the location to within the user profile (c:\users\username\dropbox). I tried changing location (using Preferences > Sync > Dropbox folder location), and each time I try it looks as though it has worked, but then reverts back to the C drive location. I tried deleting the old dropbox folder on the D drive, and changing location again, still the same process - it says it's been successful and resyncs the files, but then when I open the dropbox location it has reverted back to the C drive. Any guidance gratefully received!227Views0likes4CommentsNot seeing a few folders in Dropbox in Windows Explorer on a new laptop
