Dropbox has become a bloated PoS. The product is terrible. Often files do not sync. Often it syncs files I do not want to be synced. Users have very little control over how the dropbox apps appear and work on their own devices. One major annoyance of mine is that the company INSISTS that the dropbox icon be pinned to the top of my file system's namespace. I do not want that **bleep** icon to appear first in my directory structure. But, you cannot delete it. I SO hate that. It is my computer, I am paying for a "service." I should have control over that. You can get rid of it temporarily, if you hack the registry but that can take hours and then it comes back at dropbox's discretion. Now the web interface is cluttered with information I do not want. The worst is the "Suggested for you" banner at the top of the screen. It takes up way too much space. And I do not want dropbox's suggestions on anything. I want to make it go away forever. Not just hide it for the session. But you cannot do that. All I want is a simple directory / file tree on line which I can manage exactly the way I do the files on my computer. So I can make new directories and write files there which later I can read. I would drop dropbox in a heartbeat, if there were such a cloud service available AND if I could transfer my files from dropbox directly to the new service. It takes a long time to download then re-upload more than a terabyte of data. I welcome any suggestions for such a product. The company, dropbox, is so very annoying with their presumptions of their importance that at some point soon I will reach the limit of my tolerance. Then I'll transfer the files even if it takes a couple of months to do it.139Views0likes5CommentsCan I rename the root folder that Dropbox is in on Windows?
I have moved all my Dropbox files to a new SSD in my computer which is on Drive E. I found out the hard way to change the location of the Dropbox folder before moving stuff over. Anyways my question is, is there any way to change the root folder name so my Dropbox location isn't E:\Dropbox\Dropbox? I'd like to change it to DropboxBox or actually anything else at this point. When I try to change it I get the message that the folder or a file in it is open in another program. I have closed everything :(77Views0likes6CommentsCan I rename the Dropbox folder to flatten the Dropbox folder path?
Hello Dropbox community! Does anyone know if this possible? Can I take my existing folder path and flatten out the folder path? I would like to rename my "Dropbox" Name to Folder1 Existing - C:\Users\Name\Dropbox\Folder2 Proposed - C:\Folder1\Folder2 The end goal is to zip the "Folder1" and extract it to a computer that doesnt have dropbox and the contents of Folder 2 is linked to the "C:\Folder1\Folder2" Directory. Thank you everyone!45Views0likes1CommentHow to make Dropbox invisible in File Explorer?
Hi I successfully moved my Dropbox folder to the D folder because I often accidentally moved files to DB. Now it is safely in place; not always visible when opening explorer. The problem now is that it still appears as a folder under the desktop. Properties shows the folder location as D drive. . If I hide the folder, it also hides the DB folder on D. Can anyone advise how to hide or delete this folder while keeping the D drive directory?152Views0likes2CommentsQuestions about moving files out of Dropbox and syncing caps
Hello, I found two concerning issues with OneDrive and I'm looking for a product that doesn't have them. A user accidentally moved a folder from OneDrive to local PC storage and then purged the local PC folder. Because the folder was moved from OneDrive folder (instead of being deleted), it simply vanished from the cloud, backups, and did not appear in the recycling bin. Luckily, the user also had a laptop, so we restored the folder from there, but it gave everyone a heart attack. Does moving a folder (as opposed to deleting it) vanish it from Dropbox and the backups? Then, we put the folder where it was supposed to be and resynced it. The sync was running all day (600gb worth of data). Everything was going fine until we hit 500gb, when sync stopped and OneDrive announced that "you may be experiencing a temporary sync delay due to hight activity." Are there any caps due to high activity in Dropbox? Thank you.321Views0likes1CommentMAC OSX - Can someone explain the how the Dropbox folder within Finder works?
I really need help here as my brain has never been good with organisation and I'm easily confused by technology. SO... I need to understand how the dropbox folder within finder on my Mac works. Should i MOVE stuff into it or COPY stuff into it? Is it pointless to copy into it cos i'll end with 2x version of the same file on my laptop? Or is it like a virtual folder that doesn't actually live on my laptop? Initially I dragged folders into it and watched with horror as my hard-drive space started disappearing before my eyes. So yeah, i'm confused. So there is the APP the WEBSITE and the folder on my FINDER on the mac. And I'm struggling to understand which to use and why (and how) (I never used to be this way... I'll put it down to ageing, 👴but dropbox should make something easier to use; having been on this forum I can see there are many others like me!!) thanks for any friendly advice! 🙂3.5KViews0likes9CommentsUnable to download, move, or copy files from web interface
For the past few days I have been experiencing the following: When I try to download any file I get a generic message that says "There was an error downloading your file". When I try to copy a file to a different folder the folder selection dialog just cycles. Same thing with moving. I have tried chrome, firefox, safari, and Arc. I'm on macOS 14.3.1.Solved532Views0likes2CommentsAdd Copy File Name Option
I find myself often choosing Rename, Copy, and Paste when I want to give a new file a similar name to a previous one that already exists in the same folder. Also, sometimes I need to include the file name in an email, so I have to follow the same tedious process. It would be great if Dropbox could please add an option in the Dropbox iPhone app to simply copy the file name, as it would save ALOT of time and should not be too difficult to implement. Thank you for the consideration.770Views0likes3CommentsRepeated Dropbox crash while trying to finish large data move (High Sierra)
i have a large dropbox account (<3TB) and am on a mac pro running high sierra and i am trying to sort a large amount of data but i am in the middle of a sync. i ASSUME this means my data is in the dropbox folder on my DESKTOP but not in the cloud? or - well i am not sure how to think about this. anyway i have an error message from a couple of restarts ago (the ONLY TIME i have seen it) and right now any shut down and restart results in a repeated crash. obviously i am very concerned i will lose data so i very much want to be deliberate about this. FOR INSTANCE the reinstall instructions seem to say to delete the application and then delete the DROPBOX folder. i am not sure i am comfortable deleting the dropbox folder. i also have the advanced uninstall document but this seems to be a little more technically advanced than i am comfortable with (i think it involves terminal commands). also i don't know how and i don't even know if i can figure out how to LOCATE my dropbox folder or where/how it is being synced? can you help?
