Dropbox Plan Professional Are you a Team Member or Admin? No Do you have access to the email linked to the account? Yes Are there any devices connected to your Dropbox account? Phone, tablet, work laptop Question or Issue A few days ago, My Dropbox account was hacked by an individual calling themselves Samuel Shimb (see screenshot below). They managed to get access to my account even with 2FA enabled (via SMS)! I want to make people aware of this and the fact that, when I raised this to Dropbox's chat and Support people, they downplayed it and said they's pass it along to their colleagues. Even when I mentioned in my communication with them that I had 2FA enabled, but did not receive any 2FA OTP, in their responses, they still went ahead to say that I must enable 2FA. I have been asking for escalations without any assistance on this matter. I am a paying Dropbox Professional customer, and I want to know how someone accessed my account outside of the normal authentication flow. Even if the hacker managed to obtain my Dropbox password (which I was not using anywhere else by the way), I want to know how they bypassed the 2FA. There were no indications in my GMail inbox of someone trying to reset my Dropbox password (so the hacker did not gain access to my email account first). I was able to login normally using my Dropbox account even after the attack. This has resulted in sensitive information being exposed to an attacker whose intentions I do not know, including work files. However, Dropbox staff have been downplaying this isse. Maybe because this could be a vulnerability on the side of Dropbox and they won't admit that.380Views1like11CommentsDoes the announcement of Dropbox Passwords mean we will lose access to our Dropbox accounts?
I've read the documentation about the elimination of "Password". Does that mean that my password and access to my files will be eliminated? Does that mean I should take all my files from Dropbox and put them on another server like Apple's I-cloud? I do not have a team just like (liked?) Dropbox. I've let others have access to my files but don't have their email passwords saved. Help??284Views0likes5CommentsNeed help accessing my account due to 2FA, and security one-time code.
Hello everyone! I am having the same issue as many people have had, but I am having no luck in getting it rectified and dropbox will not return any of my emails. I had two devices authorized on my account. My desktop computer and my phone, both had access to my dropbox. The email I had attached to the account, was for a business that was purchased and absorbed, so those email addresses were replaced and we had no access to them any longer. My devices however still had access, and I thought I had changed the recovery emails to my new email, and apparently that is the case. I needed a new phone, and of course the device wasn't recognized, so it said it sent the one time code to the other devices. I went to check on my desktop, and windows had performed an automatic update and had restarted the computer and I was unable to login there as well suddenly. I tried answering all of the questions via the recovery page, and it says that some answers are incorrect, and since I set the dropbox account up in 2017 I may have some of the dates wrong, I just don't recall exactly, but I thought I had them right. So as it sits, my desktop cannot access it, despite previously working for 7 years and is a recovery device, and my new phone cannot access it because I need a recovery code. I traded the old phone in for a credit and completely forgot about the 2fa, until it was too late. Honestly I don't even recall adding 2fa on dropbox, because I never would have, but maybe it is a default setting, I guess I don't know. I am a technical support specialist, and I had over 30 years worth of technical data, error codes, manuals and many other items that are irreplaceable. I even emailed dropbox to try and upgrade my account so I can use that account as a technical database for all of our technicians to utilize remotely in the field, but nobody will respond to me. I am at a loss, because this information is all of my personal stuff and is no longer available to me and I need it badly. If someone has a suggestion, I would greatly appreciate it, thank you.358Views0likes15CommentsI need my support ticket escalated, since I can't access my account due to an incorrect password.
On 6/7 I contacted customer support regarding an account that I havenât access since 2015. I recently realized that there are photos of a deceased family member on there that I donât have anywhere else. After entering my credentials login, second factor code was sent to an email address. I no longer have access to. I reached out to support via email and they were able to verify my identity and temporarily remove the second factor authentication. I was extremely happy to have successfully been able to do this. However, when I went to log into my account, the account is now saying Iâm entering the wrong password. I know for 100%, that I am using the correct password. I had the password saved and I only accessed the account for a short time and never change the password. I reached back out to customer service regarding this issue. I feel that it is most likely that my password was reset in 2016 after a data breach. But customer service is telling me that is not the case. Since I am sure, but I am using the right password, the only other logical explanation is that when the customer service representative reset the second factor authentication they messed up something with my password. At this point customer service to give me the runaround that they canât help me if I donât have access to the email. From hearing others experiences, I have seen that people have been able to regain access to their account without access to their email after speaking to an â account security managerâ. I have been requesting for a few days now to speak to an account security manager, but the agent said they wouldnât be able to help me and thereâs nothing that they can do. I reached out to dropbox on Facebook messenger and they said that they would note my concerns and have someone reach back out to me. The next day, a different representative reached out to me and provided me with the same disappointing answers the previous representative had provided to me. Even Instagram allows you the opportunity to upload a video and identification to regain access to your account. I fully appreciate that they take peoples memories seriously and donât hold them hostage to the fullest extent. This is very frustrating because other customers have reported being in the same situation. They have also reported being given the opportunity to reset their password without access to their email (and they were also not logged in anywhere else) after speaking to an account security manager, and verifying their identification with them. As a customer it is very frustrating to see that other users have been given this opportunity and I am not I wonder why I am not being treated the same as other customers?Solved502Views0likes11Comments"Too many incorrect attempts" error when trying to reset a password
Hi, I need to reset my password for a Dropbox account but I keep getting this message. I've waited over a day to try to reset it but still no luck. Can someone open a ticket to investigate? Hi everyone, I have a work account that suddenly I can't sign into. I tried resetting my password but I don't get the email (even in junk boxes). I also tried to fill out a self service recovery form but didn't have a lot of the information so that wasn't successful. I can't seem to contact dropbox any other way! I'm currently writing this from my personal account. How can I log into my work one again!? Thanks55Views0likes1CommentGetting an error that my password is wrong when trying to set up two-factor authentication
Hello Dropbox Team - I attempted to set up the 2 Verification Step. I enter my password, and it says that the password is wrong. No. I did not mistype the password. (I used the password to enter DropBox so) I know it's the right password, typed correctly. (not auto populated) Can you please let me know why this could be happening? I also tried to do this in a different browser, which let me into Dropbox using the same password but when I attempt to setup the 2 Verification step it says it's the wrong password again. I've not set up any other passwords \`?`/ Your guidance is much appreciated. Be well.102Views0likes3CommentsPhishing scam, account breach - now not receiving Dropbox emails
Hello out there - I will admit I fell for an incredibly sleek phishing scam recently, and it happened through Dropbox. My account was compromised, Apple thinks my email may have been compromised, and my login info for Dropbox was changed. Fortunately I stayed logged in on my desktop app, so I'm able to communicate here. Otherwise I would be locked out of my account with no way to login and no way to communicate with help agents or this community. Before anyone suggests I just do a password reset, it isn't working. Whoever compromised my account has made it such that no emails from Dropbox are getting through to me. Not from Dropbox, and not from anyone sharing files with me. It is as if someone has taken control of my account and is now intercepting all emails, thus making it impossible to do a password reset and regain control of my account. I have been in touch with Enhanced Support, but so far they haven't been able to help, they just keep telling me to check for and respond to their emails, which I'm not receiving. I can only chat through the ticket support on the help site portion of the website. This feels rather hopeless, short of getting on a phone call and a screen share with Dropbox, which they won't do for me. I have checked my spam and junk folders, I have allowed emails from Dropbox, nothing is getting through. I have never had trouble receiving them until now. Anyone with any ideas?Solved378Views0likes4CommentsI can't access any of my 3 email addresses to get the one-time code.
