Permissions

Dropbox Plan Business Are you a Team Member or Admin? Admin (but just a business owner...not very tech savvy) Do you have access to the email linked to the account? yes Are there any devices connected to your Dropbox account? All employee laptops are connected to the account and they all have the relevant shared folder stored locally as well as in the cloud. Question or Issue I am an admin on a business account. We have a common folder where all of our client files are stored. I hired a new employee that has a conflict with one of our client matters, and we need to wall them off from that one single file among hundreds, while maintaining access to every other file within that folder. The folders permissions use the group that includes all employees, and this person is a member of that group. What is the easiest way to wall them off from this one sub-folder while maintaining access to the other hundreds of files in this shared folder?22Views0likes2CommentsI've accidentally joined a Dropbox team, thinking it was a client sharing a file
Ive been using Dropbox to run my subscription business for 7+ years. Yesterday, I inadvertently clicked on a link thinking it was a shared folder with a client. I have now joined their team, and my acvpunt has merged with theirs. They have ALL my business/tax information and client files. Ive tried to contact them to no avail, I don't think they'd used Dropbox before, and don't really know what they're doing. My account has hundreds of subscriber folders, all linked to specific URLs, so I cant lose my account. I've been a paying customer for years, however support so far has been non-existent, stating that i must contact this non-contactable "admin" for them to restore... potentially DELETE my entire account. I really need my account separated ASAP, my entire business and livelihood depend on it. I can't believe something so catastrophic comes with no warnings! If anyone can please help, I'll be forever in your debt.37Views1like1CommentI joined a Dropbox team and now all my files are shared with them
I joined a professional team and it gave them access to all my personal folders and files. I didn’t realise that joining a team would do this, I assumed my folders would still only be accessible by me. I deleted the folders but when I tried to permanently delete the files it said I do not have permission. I do not have permission to delete my own folders and files????? Apparently it needs to be admin which is a colleague who I do not want to access the information.344Views0likes6CommentsIs the admin of a team account able to access the contents of all folders?
Hi, I am the bookkeeper of a business. We would like to upgrade Dropbox to Standard and make it more secure. We think the manager should be the admin and a user, and I should be a user. At present, Dropbox and all its folders are accessible to anyone who can access the computer. We would like that to remain the case for some folders, but other folders should be password protected. I have shared one folder with our accountant, which I use to upload information which should remain confidential from the manager. Is the admin able to access the contents of all folders, even if they are not shared with them? Can this be done in Dropbox Standard and if so, how please? Many thanks.85Views0likes3CommentsMy password was changed by someone else
Ok, here is my story - looking for info and/or advice. My Xfinity email account has been hacked several times over the past year. The last time (5 months ago) and yesterday, the hackers were able to use the email account to gain access to my Dropbox account. Last time, I enabled 2-factor security in Dropbox with both a mobile authenticator app and physical security keys. Yesterday, my Dropbox password was hacked and changed... I knew it was happening because I was aware that my email was being hacked and was literally dealing with it as it was happening. I realized that my Dropbox password was changed and I immediately changed it again. I WAS asked for 2-factor verification using the mobile app. I might have been asked for the security key, too - I don't remember exactly as I was dealing with several things at once. Point is that I WAS asked for something 2-factor to authenticate and allow the password change to occur. What I find troubling is that "they" were able to change the password/gain access to my account with 2-factor in place... Isn't that the whole point of having 2-factor? A physical "key" which you must be in possession of in order to make certain changes to the account??? I chatted with Luis in Customer Support - absolutely NO HELP WHATSOEVER - basically stated "no idea how that happened" and said that the problem was probably my computer's security or that I had used public wifi... Public wifi never happened. I pressed him to escalate the case or forward it to a security team (does that even exist??). He asked to move the chat to email - I suspect as a way to get rid of me.. Any info / advice would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.Solved14KViews1like5CommentsI cannot manage team permissions while signed in as admin
Why can I not manage permissions while signed in as admin? It clearly says I am. And yet I can manage sharing permissions at all. Please help. I have screenshots, but I don't seem to be able to post them here. I can't give you much more info without those, other than I am not allowed to change permission settings like who has access to what folders, and I'm not able to share files or folders via email. This is the same from Chrome and the DB desktop app for Mac. -Ash245Views0likes6CommentsUnlinking device and deleting (clicking on trash icon) from list of unlinked devices.
I used Dropbox at a previous job in four different PCs. Once I left that job I remotely unlinked the devices that could access my Dropbox account. Its been now 5 years or so and I can still see the list of unlinked devices with "unkown" remote wipe status or "pending". It has not changed during all these years. I noticed that there is a trash icon next to these unlinked devices. I clicked on one of them and one of those unlinked devices disappeared from the list. See the picture below. *What does this mean? *Could that unlinked device still one day have access to my account? *Is it the same whether I hit the trash icon or not? *Should I hit the trash icon on the remaining devices? Another question: I noticed that the location of these unlinked devices has also changed, the PCs seem to move all over the country. So Dropbox knows their location, but doesnt know if the remote wipeout actually worked. How is this possible? Dear Support, I have a customer who is experiencing issues accessing the "Shared" folder in Dropbox. He is presented with a prompt that says "Confirm your email" along with a button labeled "Send confirmation email." After clicking the button, he receives an email with a "Verify your email" button. However, when he clicks this button, he is redirected back to the Dropbox homepage, and nothing has changed. If he navigates to the "Shared" section again, the same message, "Confirm your email," appears. Also when he trys to share a Dropbox file as link he is meet by the prompt "You cannot share until you have confirmed your email address." I would appreciate your assistance in resolving this issue.154Views0likes4CommentsI'm not receiving the password reset email to login to my account.
I have a paid Essentials Dropbox account through July 2025 under an AOL email. Even though I added "no-reply" to my contacts, I have not been able to receive a password reset link in my AOL account. There does not seem to be any way to contact Dropbox by email or phone, and I can't access my files. I don't remember the last time I accessed Dropbox or shared a file, so I can't reset my password that way. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.136Views0likes4Comments
