The video(*.mp4) saved in Dropbox is slightly over 1 hour. However, only the initial video fragment (15 min) is shared. It is true for both the shared file and the shared link. What could be the problem?Solved11KViews0likes4CommentsDoes Dropbox compress files that user's upload?
Hello Dropbox, It's time for transparency on the topic of file compression. It is ridiculous that this question has been asked by so many users, dating back a decade, and still, I am unable to locate an official response or published document containing this sensible information. Does Dropbox compress files that user's upload? I'd like to hear it from a Dropbox representative, and: If yes; which file types are compressed? I want (require) a list of file extensions, please. Not a vague response lacking credibility besides "I work at Dropbox" or "any lossy audio file". What method of compression is used; can you at least tell me if its lossless? (again, documentation please.) Can the compression be circumvented with a workaround? Is there some container file type like .rar archives that Dropbox will leave alone? For example, what if I upload .iso or .vhd images? Would that be as easy as just changing the file extension or would I actually need to build an image because Dropbox uses heuristics to examine the raw data of the file in determining what to compress? What if I created a lossless archive that is password protected? What if I used my own file encryption software before uploading? If no, please provide a link to Dropbox official documentation stating this. I'm sorry that I don't trust you (hey, I'm honest). It's shady that Dropbox hasn't made this information easily accessible to their paid subscribers. I understand why it would be in Dropbox's best interest to compress user's files and in the end it would come down to profit and slight consideration for the user experience transferring files. I see it as, I pay (and have for ~years~) for a specific amount of storage space, therefore I should be able to choose how much of that quota my data occupies. Thank you, while irritated I do respectfully appreciate your time. WaltSolved8.3KViews1like6CommentsMS Word track changes visible in uploaded files
I have edited MS word documents on my computer using Review/track changes. The files are saved with Review/Markup off. When I upload these files to a dropbox folder (shared), they display a track changes/markup view. When I permanently delete these files and try uploading them again, the markup view again appears. How do I upload the files to Dropbox (web, not app) without markup edits displaying, i.e. clean edited copy?5.4KViews1like19CommentsIPhone X Videos Shot in High Efficiency (HEIC) Format are Blank with Sound
There are other similar threads about this but I'm starting a new one because this issue is still not fixed and it should be becasue users rely on Dropbox to serve their most precious information - family photos and video 🙂 When backing up the iOS photo library to Camera Uploads any video shot using the High Efficiency (HEIC) format in iOS cannot be played on the web or any HTML5 player. There is sound but no video. If I was to copy the same video from my iPhone directly to my computer the video is able to be played so the issue is during the Camera Uploads process. I have built desktop applications that allow users to browse their entire Dropbox directory, play and share videos and now their libraries (including mine) are full of blank videos. Please resolve this issue.4.7KViews0likes5CommentsI need to save my Android photos to Dropbox directly as .jpg not .jpeg.
Hi all, As of a few days ago I finally figured out a great solution to my workflow by using an Android phone to take my pictures directly into Dropbox as Android creates .jpg file extensions which is the only extension a few of my other online systems accept. After checking the process again yesterday, I noticed that right clicking on the image to get the direct link now produces a .jpeg extension in the URL and is now unusable. This literally happened within a week of me figuring out the perfect flow. Now, I am back to square one sadly. I am hoping someone out there knows the answer. Many thanks!Solved4.4KViews0likes12CommentsCan't open some files after syncing all, please help!
Hello everyone, I am new to Dropbox and currently using the 30 days free trial. I am a windows user and have a shared folder with a mac user, after syncing all the files in the folder, some of them won't open whenever I try to, and would show up as 0 bytes when I check their properties. Anyone knows how to fix this? Thanks a lot 🙂Solved2.6KViews0likes4CommentsUsing dropbox as server for website
Good day, We are building a website (www.guerrilla-exhaust.com). And we are using Dropbox as a server for our pictures. Now everything worked perfect for a couple of days, but today all our pictures became invinsible. Example go to producten->auto->Audi->A1-S1 and you can see the little icon telling there used to be pictures, but the site cant find them. I have contacted our website hosting, but they dont have experience with Dropbox so they couldnt help me. They told me that the website couldnt find the HTML which would mean that the dropbox pictures arent public. I have placed all the pictures in a shared folder so they should be public. Can anybody help me with this problem? Thank you in advance, Wouter2.6KViews0likes1CommentCamera uploads suddenly broken, I can't preview my content when using the Photos view.
Hello community Today my Dropbox camera uploads view was studenly broken. I could see photos that id already moved to other folders and no photos from my camera roll from recent weeks. When I move to the files section and then look in the camera uploads folder in can see them all there but in the photos view is all wrong. I'm using ios and the latest version of the Dropbox app. Interestingly on Android the view is correct. Any Ideas?Solved2.5KViews0likes6Comments
