Setting up the apps
14 TopicsSaving email attachments (pictures) using Dropbox for Outlook on Windows 11
Hi smart peolple I have installed Dropbox for Outlook(desktop) on Windows 11. We are getting lots of mails with photos from out staff when they are cleaning. I wish to use the app for saving those photos on Dropbox. However when saving photos to Dropbox, It will also save all the icons in peoples signature. That is often 5-6 tiny pictures with phones, FB, LinkedIn logos ect. Anyway to avoid those tiny icons/pictures? NB: I know I can remove them manually, but that takes way to long time.Solved336Views1like7Commentsbrother printer/scanner cannot upload scanned document

Hi all I just want to add my experience on this subject and some tips and issues. I worked on a project using Solidworks, with 3-4 other engineers from 3 different companies. The CAD folder was shared between us via Dropbox. One think to keep in mind really important: Solidworks makes hiden temporary files of the opened documents. A second Solidworks session will recognice those and ether prevent a second user from working on those files or warn and create coppies. Dropbox does not sync temporary files, so Solidworks will not know if someone else has the files open. As a result it is easy to overwrite each others work. One way around that is to load Solidworks assemblies in lightweight mode and each engineer to work on a seperate sub-assembly. Avoid making links/reference geometry of other subassemblies. Since most of us were freelancers i found it easy to modify the top level of the assembly on non-working hours when i knew people were not accesing it. Performance was somethimes a bit on the slow side but Solidworks can be slow even when loading files from a local server. Also while Solidworks was open sometime files whould not sync. So occasionaly i would have to close it to allow Dropbox to upload changes. Finally at the end of the day i had to leave my PC open for a few minutes for Dropbox to sync. The prospect of overwriting files is really scary and i don't think this solution can work in large teams. But for a small team on a tight budget it can definetly work, you just have to communicate who is saving what.7.1KViews0likes1CommentUse Dropbox to Replace Google Cloud Print or AirPrint
My printer doesn't support AirPrint (Apple's print over wi-fi solution) and Google has discontinued it's Cloud Print offering. But it seems like I still have a fairly regular need to print from my phone or for my child to print something from school that will be ready when they get home. I have a solution. LIMITATIONS This solution is specifically for Mac users, but I suspect there is a similar option Windows users as well, as mentioned toward the end of this post. You need an always-on computer that can print to the printer. A closed laptop probably won't work. STEPS (MacOS) Part One: Create the Automator Script Somewhere in your Dropbox folder, create two new folders: "Home Office Printer" or whatever you want to call it to indicate where it will print. "Completed" folder for items that finished printing. You could skip this step and instead trash items after they print. I have a top level "AirPrint" folder which then contains these two folders. How it's organized doesn't really matter. It's up to you. Open a new task in Automator, and select "Folder Action" as the type. Add the following step in Automator: Set variable – "doc" as the file to print. When you see "$doc" in these instructions it means I'm using the variable. Display notification – with title "Faux AirPrint is Starting" and message "Printing $doc" Get value – of variable: $doc. Print finder items – and select the printer you want to print to. Move finder items – to the "Completed" folder. Or to the trash if you prefer. Display notification – with title "Faux AirPrint Finished" and message "The document was sent to the printer." Save the Automator document as "Faux AirPrint" or whatever suits you. Right-click on the "Home Office Printer" (the folder you created) and select Services > Folder Actions Setup ... A new window will open prompting you to select a script to attach to the folder. Select the "Faux AirPrint Folder Action" or whatever name you gave your Automator file. Click the "Attach" button. Verify that the "On" boxes are checked next to the name of the folder and the name of the automation. Close the "Folder Actions Setup" window. Test this out from your phone or some other device by copying a document into the "Home Office Printer" folder. Let Dropbox sync that to the folder on the computer connected to your printer. The folder action should print the file and then move it to the "Completed" folder (or trash). What is nice about this solution is that you don't even have to be on the same network, as you do with AirPrint. You can do it from anywhere you have an internet connection. WINDOWS I don't know much about similar options for Windows users, but a quick search indicates there are solutions available. Here's one article I found: https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/automate-windows-tasks-folder-actions/ Perhaps someone else will add instructions for Windows users to be able to do the same. PRO TIPS You can share the "Home Office Printer" folder with you spouse or work collegues or whomever. They don't have to set anything up. They just have to copy items to the folder to print. You can setup a Dropbox File Request directed to the print folder to allow someone the temporary ability to print to your printer. If you generate regular reports that need to be printed or have any other process that requires printing, you can just direct the file output to the print folder rather than trying to automate the printing process. If you use iOS Shortcuts, you can create a shortcut to for the share sheet that automatically saves the document to the print folder. This gives you one-click printing from your iPhone or iPad. Here's a quick overview of the steps: Get File – Set the initial path to your print folder. If (file extension is not "pdf") then make PDF from file Save File – to Service:Dropbox; do not ask where to save; set the destination path to your print folder. In the shortcut options, enable "Show in Share Sheet" That's it! This solution has been serving me flawlessly for several years, so I thought I would share. Feedback welcome.3.9KViews2likes1CommentWhy are my Dropbox folders not showing in the iOS Files app on my iPhone?
iphone 6 latest ios in dropbox ios app (and on Mac Desktop), both my DB accounts show up. In mail, go to "attach file" and no DB accounts show up in Locations. In ios Files, no DB accounts show up in Locations. This happened last time there was a major ios upgrade, and we had to stand around while DB blamed Apple. (Please join this with the same issue feedback I just sent, that DB just acknowlkedged with a link that I can't open using these credentials - add feedback to THIS Q&A please, not the other way around)Solved47KViews6likes21CommentsSync specific photo album on iOS with Dropbox?
For my work, sometimes people tag our products on Instagram. I use an iOS Shortcut to save these photos onto my iPhone, and then I always save the photos in a specific photo album inside the native Photos app to keep it organized. However, when I work from my MacBook it’s sometimes a bit annoying that all of these photos are on my phone; not on my MacBook. So I use Airdrop to transfer them. It would be much easier if when adding the photo to the album on my iPhone, it would at the same time also be uploaded to a Dropbox folder. Is it possible to somehow just sync one iOS photos album with Dropbox? I tried the IFTTT Applet called "If new photo added to iOS album, upload to Dropbox" which sounds like exactly what I need, but it doesn't seem to work.Solved12KViews0likes8CommentsMAC: Why does Dropbox appear in iCloud Drive settings?
In my Mac's System Preferences for iCloud, iCloud Drive has an Options button next to it. Clicking that shows a list of apps below a statement "Apps which can store documents and data in iCloud will appear here." Most are Apple apps like Mail, Calendar, and other Apple apps. And I understand why I would want to turn them on or off. There are also 2 or 3 third party apps as well, like my Calendar replacement, a PDF editing app, and a graphics app that can share files between my Macs so I can edit images anywhere. But Dropbox is listed here too. Can anyone tell me WHY it is here and WHAT it reads/writes to iCloud? There is nothing in the iCloud Drive that is obviously Dropbox related, and no items that are duplicated in the Dropbox folder. The iCloud Drive folder (as well as looking at them in a browser logged into iCloud) only shows folders Documents, Desktop, Downloads, Shortcuts, and those 3rd party apps. Dropbox is not one of them. Apps which appear here have to have iCloud functionality built in to them...not all installed apps appear here. So I'm trying to understand why Dropbox has this ability built in, and what it's for. And can I turn it off, or is it syncing some Dropbox settings between my Dropbox equipped computers on the same account? Does it have something to do with syncing photos (I do not use Dropbox's feature to backup my iPhone photos)? Below is a screenshot of Dropbox appearing in the iCloud Drive pane:9.3KViews4likes8CommentsHow can I use Kindlebox to get my Kindle books on Dropbox?

Just as the question says, can I have my ON notebooks sync through Dropbox? Instead of using OneDrive. I've been looking online and so far I've only found third-party apps and services that do it, not a straight up sync option. I haven't really used ON before, but I was exploring it as a posibility for my notes, since I use Dropbox for just about everything else and was not interested in having an extra backup service. Thank you.Solved8.7KViews1like3Comments
