15 TopicsHow to disable downloads for people who are invited to view
Hi all, I am a Dropbox Enterprise user. I want to invite my colleagues to a sensitive file, and I want to set up a password to the file and disable downloads for the file. But it seems I can only add password and disable downloads when I share the link to file with my colleagues. If I invite them, there is no way to disable downloading. Is this correct? Am I missing anything? Is there a solution to this so I can invite them and making sure them cannot download the file. This is for data security and privacy purpose. Many thanks in advance! I recently shared a work folder with a mix of client and (their) sponsor staff. Soon after that I started receiving requests to join our business team. I've never seen this before so I'm assuming Dropbox decided it was in their business (profit) interest to push business account holders to fill up their team slots, so they need to ask for more? Now I suddenly have to deny all of these requests and explain that 'no, you don't need to join my team to have all the file access you need for this project.' And that 'team members are intended to be our business colleagues that need much broader file access, but Dropbox has just started promoting this to drive up their revenue.' It's extra work and it causes potential tension from client staff (or in this case sponsor staff too) that feel they are being denied access to something they need. Can I turn off this automated promotion by Dropbox? It's clearly a new thing and I'm guessing we can't shut it off, but it's obnoxious and inappropriate for the company to be driving us to admit team members that we don't want, just because we have a few open slots. Someone please help. Please stop this annoying business practice. Thanks, Joseph2.2KViews1like3CommentsRestrict access to content. How?
Hi, I have a standard account with 3 licenses (and 3 users with 3 distinct email addresses: one manager, one technical and one admin). I would like to limit the access to some members of my team to some specific folders. For example, I would like to restrict the access of the technical member to the admin related folders. When I try to do so, it is impossible since Dropbox considers "all team members" as one, with one unique and identical set up for all 3. Can some help me? Thank you so much!Solved1.5KViews0likes3CommentsHow did somebody I don't really know, put a file in my shared folder?
I joined a kickstarter with the same email that I use for Dropbox. Later in the day I found a file in my shared folder that said it was from the project creator. The title was the same as the sample they had set up on the front page of the kickstarter. When I clicked on the 3 dots to get more info, it said I needed permission from a group with the same name as the kickstarter. I know better than to open a file from the internet, unless I am sure it's safe. The thing is that I thought I had set my shared files up to only get stuff by invitation only. I assume they got my email address from kickstarter, since I did back their product. But I didn't ask for the download & I didn't give them an invitation. I don't think there is any malice involver. But, I do want to know how they got it in my shared folder & what do I need to do to make sure it doesn't happen again.790Views0likes3CommentsRemoving external user from all shared folders
Hi Dropbox and forum, There seems to be no way of removing all access of an external user to files/folders shared to him. Lets say you have a team folder with "Projects", and in this folder you have hundreds of subfolders shared with different external collaborators. One user has been invited to 70 of the subfolders, and you need to remove his access to everything. As far as i see, there is no other way to remove this user but to go through every one of the 70 folders and manually remove him. If this isn't possible, it should really be a high priority feature request.5.4KViews10likes4CommentsHow to share a folder with external users?
I am the admin of our business account and want to achieve the following folder/permissions structure. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to do this with Dropbox. (All users need to be able to edit. ) Top Level Folder (editable by team member 1, team member 2, external user 1, external user 2) Sub-folder 1 Sub-folder 2 Sub-folder 3 Sub-folder 4 (also editable by external user 3, external user 4) Sub-folder 5 Sub-folder 6 Simply put: a couple of people on my team and a few externals need access to a top level folder.... and a couple of other external users need access to only a sub-folder. What is the best way to achieve these folder/permissions between my team members and external users?? ThanksSolved14KViews0likes13CommentsHow to remove a member from an automatically created group?
When adding a new member to the teamfolder dropbox automatically creates a group we never asked for that has access to the whole folder, while the new member should have access only to certain subfolders. From the admin console we are not able to manage this. What can we do?Solved7.5KViews0likes11CommentsAdd non team member to team folder
we have a consultant who helps us remotely, we wish to add them to one of our Dropbox Team Folders, yet since they already have a business account (their own) I don't want to send an invite and be paying for an account that's not used?Solved10KViews0likes13CommentsUnable to share folder since it contains a shared folder
Hello, I have created a folder with documents and folders that are labelled as: "Only You" for members. It will not allow me to share this folder though because it says "This folder can only be shared as a link because it contains a shared folder". I don't see any files inside this folder that are shared though. I moved a lot of information into this folder and unshared some people from documents to make all ONLY YOU. Does this take awhile to update before I can share with others? Not sure why its showing as I only have access but not allowing sharing... Please let me know how to resolve. Thank you!Solved7.8KViews0likes9Comments
