Shared Folders
78 TopicsSharing files and demands for subscription
I have a paid subscription, and store documents which I share with a group of other individuals and also groups of family members. I have shared relevant folders with them. They are now getting demands to pay for a dropbox account (presumably as the total storage they can view goes above the 'free' allocation). How can I share folders with them without them having to pay for viewing 'my' files? I don't want to have to share links at the individual document level. Otherwise it makes dropbox useless for me to use collaboratively. One (family) user I have shared with has messages saying his dropbox files will be deleted unless he pays for a full subscription. He already does pay for a subscription, which somehow seems to be separate. I am concerned that my files will be deleted. Any help would be appreciated. I host a podcast and my co-host uploads his audio tracks to his dropbox account. I was added to that account so I could download his tracks when they were ready but I'm being told inside the app that I'm WAY over on my storage and my account was suspended. I can't access the audio files now but it's not my account. It's theirs. How do I sort this out? I need those files.51Views0likes1CommentWhy am I getting an error that my Dropbox account is full?
Myself, two other family members share our accounts with each other. My employer has shared a folder with my account. The three accounts and the office folder have 2.75GB used in total. None of these accounts or folder have more than 700MB used, two use around 500MB. DropBox says I am out of storage. The other two family member aren't seeing this message since they don't have access to the Office Folder. The three family account are just under 2GB total. I was not given an option about the work folder. Perhaps most of this isn't relevant but I wanted to share every detail I know. Why am I getting this warning about running out of space? Thanks!90Views0likes3CommentsI'm out of space. However, the content isn't mine - it is shared.
Dropbox Plan N/A Device N/A Operating System/Browser (if using the web) N/A Dropbox App Version (if using the app) N/A Dropbox indicates I'm out of space, but that's only true if you count things shared with me. That user has already paid for the space. Requiring all users to "buy-up" based on shared space feels exploitative - a rent-seeking practice where Dropbox collects payment multiple times for the same stored bytes. Google Drive handles this more fairly by only counting shared files against the original uploader's quota. That approach actually encourages collaboration instead of penalizing it. The current Dropbox model breaks the basic logic of file sharing. One person pays to store a file, shares it with their team/community/family, and suddenly Dropbox is collecting revenue as if they're storing multiple copies. It's double-dipping that turns a collaborative feature into a revenue multiplier. How about another look at this sort of case? I have a family subscription which allows me to use 2TB of storage. I want to share one of my folders with a new user who is not part of my Dropbox Family. The folder is over the 2GB basic limit. The user seemingly cannot join the folder without upgrading their subscription to get more storage. Is there a way to make the folder online only, so that the user isn't using their own storage allocation?137Views0likes4CommentsMy quota is being occupied by shared folders
Hi everyone, I'm having problems with my dropbox account, the alert tells me that I have exceeded the space limit (12TB) and therefore I have deleted some large files, even though I have deleted them I continue to have the same problem, from what I see most of the space is occupied by shared files but I don't have so many shared files, can anyone help me?109Views0likes2CommentsI can't access shared folder due to lack of storage space - do I need to upgrade?
I use dropbox occasionally. I have a free account, one I've had for years. This morning I logged in to access some files a friend shared w/me & dropbox will not let me access it unless I upgrade to some "plan". That page is the same page with which I was greeted upon logging in. I'm at about 650 mg of my 2G free account limit. I am not over storage, unless my free account has been somehow restricted/modified. I've tried several times to access the notification to "join folder" from my friend, only to be taken to this prompt:Solved881Views0likes17CommentsWhy did I go over-quota, if the owner of the shared folder has a paid account?
I’m sharing files to a company folder that was created specifically for me. However, on my end, Dropbox is asking me to upgrade because I’ve run out of storage. The company I’m working with has a professional account, so I’m unsure why I’m being asked to pay in order to upload files to their folder.92Views0likes1Comment
