Shared Folders
66 TopicsDo I need space in order to upload content to someone else's shared folder?
Hi, I really need some help with drop box! The client I work for has created a dropbox account with a large 2TB TerraBite (not 2GB) limit. This is to back up and store all the work I do for them so they are in charge of all the files and working files they have paid me for, it also takes the responsibility and cost away from me which is really vital, otherwise all the responsibility and cost of storing data is down to me. I have a drop box account with a 2GB limit. When they shared their drop box share folder with me and I upload to their share folder drop box uses my 2GB limit and says I am out of data, even though I am using their folder that they should have the 2TB amount of space on. I cannot back up the files to their 2TB worth of space and drop box is asking me to pay for more storage space. I really don't know what to do and would really appreciate help on this. thank you! Another user shared their folder with me to allow me to upload some work product I had done for them. I only have the basic free dropbox they have 3TB and they are no where near full. I can't upload any of the work product becuase dropbox says I am full. I have nothing in my drop box (ZERO!) but all of the other users work product counts against my quota. This seems like a heavy handed way to force people to pay for a subscription they don't use. Other clients Onedrive & Google Drive share options work without this arm twisting to forcing me to buy a subscription to contribute to their shared folders (folders that don't even belong to me).Solved1.9KViews0likes3CommentsDropbox full because of shared folder, how can I avoid them taking space?
Hi, i have a dropbox account and the free space that i have is full because of the files inside the shared folder that i have with some friends. Is there a way to avoid that the shared folder that uses the free space of my account without cancelling those folder? Because i have no more space and i haven't uploaded any files Excuse me for my english but i found problem on trying to traduce this message from my languageSolved110KViews8likes132CommentsCannot open a shared folder despite having plenty of space available
I currently have the basic plan. I invited someone to join so I have 3 GB allotted to me. I am currently only using 1.12 GB. This shows in my profile. A friend sent me an important file today, and I am unable to open it. I get an error that says I am out of space and I need to upgrade for $11.99 a month. I saw another post that referred to checking backups and I did verify that I have nothing backed up. I was at 1.3 GB, so I deleted a few photos that were saved. And now I’m down to 1.12 GB. Why am I not able to open this new file? There should be no problem as these are our family Christmas photos. The same person takes them every year, the file size should be about the same as the last five years that are already saved in dropbox. So this file should be nowhere near large enough to use up the remaining amount of storage. I need to access these files so that I can get photos printed for Christmas for family that we’re going to visit. Time is of the essence. Can you please help me??30Views0likes1CommentMy Basic account shows 2.6 TB “shared files” but I cannot see or leave any shared folder
Hi, My personal Dropbox account ([removed]) shows 2.64 TB used out of 2.5 GB. The storage page says that the space is used by “Shared files (2.6 TB)” but I cannot see any shared folders in my account. I am not part of any team and I cannot find any shared folders under the /sharing or /share pages, or anywhere else in the interface. My own files are only around 190 kB. I also cannot change owner settings or leave any shared folder because nothing is visible. It seems like my account is linked to an old or hidden “legacy shared space” which is not visible in the current interface and cannot be removed by myself. Could a Dropbox Staff member please disconnect this hidden or legacy shared space from my account? This is the only way to restore the correct storage usage. Thank you very much. I host a podcast and my co-host uploads his audio tracks to his dropbox account. I was added to that account so I could download his tracks when they were ready but I'm being told inside the app that I'm WAY over on my storage and my account was suspended. I can't access the audio files now but it's not my account. It's theirs. How do I sort this out? I need those files.72Views0likes1CommentWhy am I getting an error that my Dropbox account is full?
Myself, two other family members share our accounts with each other. My employer has shared a folder with my account. The three accounts and the office folder have 2.75GB used in total. None of these accounts or folder have more than 700MB used, two use around 500MB. DropBox says I am out of storage. The other two family member aren't seeing this message since they don't have access to the Office Folder. The three family account are just under 2GB total. I was not given an option about the work folder. Perhaps most of this isn't relevant but I wanted to share every detail I know. Why am I getting this warning about running out of space? Thanks!118Views0likes3CommentsI'm out of space. However, the content isn't mine - it is shared.
Dropbox Plan N/A Device N/A Operating System/Browser (if using the web) N/A Dropbox App Version (if using the app) N/A Dropbox indicates I'm out of space, but that's only true if you count things shared with me. That user has already paid for the space. Requiring all users to "buy-up" based on shared space feels exploitative - a rent-seeking practice where Dropbox collects payment multiple times for the same stored bytes. Google Drive handles this more fairly by only counting shared files against the original uploader's quota. That approach actually encourages collaboration instead of penalizing it. The current Dropbox model breaks the basic logic of file sharing. One person pays to store a file, shares it with their team/community/family, and suddenly Dropbox is collecting revenue as if they're storing multiple copies. It's double-dipping that turns a collaborative feature into a revenue multiplier. How about another look at this sort of case?
