Storage space
93 TopicsI'm trying to restore files, but it says I don't have enough space.
Hello - I had a hard drive that died. I downloaded "EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard for Mac" and was able to recover everything. However, when I hit "Recover," then pick DropBox for its destination, it says I don't have enough space, which is wrong. I have 2 TB of space, and I'm only using 8.1% of that space. I AM trying to transfer 550 GB, but I have plenty of room. Anyone know how I can rectify this?Solved105Views0likes6CommentsHow can I move files out of my account and close it or keep my usage under 2 GB?
Question or Issue I have been on the Basic package for many years. I do not want to close my account. I overfilled my account long before the current charging regime came in. I cannot afford a paid account, so I need to move my files out and close the account, or at least keep it to 2GB. When I try to move the files out, I get a warning message saying I cannot move anything unless I purchase an account. I cannot afford an account. I am sure there must be an easy way around this. However, finding out what that easy way is is extremely time consuming. Please can someone just tell me the easy way without me having to read hours worth of 'Terms & Conditions'. Thank you.96Views0likes4CommentsHow can I find what files I've stored on my Dropbox account to delete them and free up space?

Dropbox Plan School Device Windows Laptop Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Question or Issue My dropbox was connected to my schools files and started syncing out of nowhere, downloaded 400GB onto my laptop. I went to the security settings on dropbox and removed my computer from the account and instructed it to delete the files. The 400GB have dissappeared from the folder but are now somewhere in my temp files. My computer says my folders only have a few GB but my temp files have 400, but I can't find them anywhere. How do I fully clear up this space so I can use my computer?95Views0likes2CommentsI can't access the "manage files" section to delete files and free up storage space.
Question or Issue I received a notification that I'm over my free storage limit but when I click on 'manage files' the screen returns to the storage notification after a few seconds so I cannot delete any files. I'm stuck in a loop! I can't even see my files but I suspect a friend has uploaded a large file into a folder I've shared with her. If I can sort the issue so I can see my files, will I still be able to delete that file she shared or will she have to do it? She's away at the moment so cannot access to delete. Thanks!137Views0likes2CommentsI'm trying to permanently delete some shared folders, but it doesn't recognize me as the owner.
Hi everyone, I’m running into a serious issue with Dropbox and would appreciate any insight. I have several folders and files that I originally created and shared in the past. Now, when I try to permanently delete them, Dropbox refuses — saying I need the owner’s help, even though I am the sole owner of the entire account. Here’s what’s happening: When I go into the folder info via the web, I see only myself listed as having access, with "Can edit" permissions — but there’s no "Owner" listed at all. These are folders I personally created and verified multiple times. I’m trying to delete them permanently to free up hundreds of gigabytes of space. After selecting “Permanently delete,” Dropbox shows: “Permanently delete 1 item? This folder will be gone forever for everyone, including for anyone still using the folder. Permanently deleting this folder won’t free up space. Enter your password to continue.” And then I get the error: “Couldn’t be permanently deleted – Ask the owner to help permanently delete this.” Again, I’m the only person listed and there’s no one else who could possibly be the “owner.” Also, under main folder settings, I get this message: “Only the owner can change these settings. Settings apply to all folders in ‘[folder name]’.” I’ve tried: Restoring the folders and deleting again Clearing cache and cookies Deleting from the web and mobile apps Checking sharing settings Verifying account permissions Nothing has worked. At this point, I believe this is an issue with the way Dropbox flags old shared folders — even if they’re no longer actively shared. I’m asking if Dropbox can please purge these folders from my account entirely and help me recover the storage space. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help or has dealt with something similar.205Views0likes8CommentsMy Dropbox account is full and I'm missing important files.
yes Ihave same issues ; Dropbox says my account is full. Yes it's full of files I did not put in there. And my very. important files are gone. I only joined dropbox because I was advised by an attorney this was safe for my files . Guess NOT safe at all. And No help from Dropbox, the AI chatbot cant understand a single question and keeps sending me to faqs. Yes I have tried all the FAQS dropbox. Now What?92Views0likes2CommentsMy Dropbox account went over-quota, while syncing, and my folders are now empty.
Hi, I transferred multiple folders and files to my basic account, and everything appeared to sync correctly. However, once my storage limit was reached, I stopped seeing the files — the folders looked empty on my computer. Although I deleted a significant number of files to free up space, the folders still appear empty. Even when I select "Make available offline" and see the green checkmark, the contents don't show up locally. I'm not sure if the files are stuck in the cloud or if there's a sync issue preventing them from appearing on my computer. Can someone please advise?
