Storage space
66 TopicsIssue deleting a large number of files
Hi there. Sorry if a topic like this has already been made, but I require some assistance. See, I play a lot of PC games, but for some reason, Dropbox, or my computer, downloads any images that are seen in the game and has it saved here on Dropbox, which I absolutely do not need. When I saw that I went over the necessary amount of file storage, I tried deleting all of the images in my account, but it says its unable to. I don't know if its because there are so many files, or because of something else. If someone can show me an effective way to delete all of the files/image I have, or better yet, have Support or an Admin do it, I'd be greatly appreciative.50Views0likes2CommentsApps create conflicted recursive copies of their contents filling my drive

See a sample below of a partial transcript of my deletion attempt in macOS terminal: Amazon Kindle.app/Contents/PlugIns/SendToKindle (David Kaplan's conflicted copy 2025-12-09) (David Kaplan's conflicted copy 2025-12-10) (David Kaplan's conflicted copy 2025-12-15) (David Kaplan's conflicted copy 2025-12-16) (David Kaplan' ( (David Kaplan's conflicted copy 2025-12-19).appex Amazon Kindle.app/Contents/PlugIns/SendToKindle (David Kaplan's conflicted copy 2025-12-07) (David Kaplan's conflicted copy 2025-12-11) (David Kaplan's conflicted copy 2025-12-12 1) (David Kaplan's conflicted copy 2025-12-16 1) (David Ka (David Kaplan's conflicted copy 2025-12-19 15).appex Amazon Kindle.app/Contents/PlugIns/SendToKindle (David Kaplan's conflicted copy 2025-12-07 2) (David Kaplan's conflicted copy 2025-12-08) (David Kaplan's conflicted copy 2025-12-09 1) (David Kaplan's conflicted copy 2025-12-11) (David Kaplan (David Kaplan's conflicted copy 2025-12-13).appex There were hundreds or thousands of these (I have no idea, but I'm getting disk warnings that my drive is getting full). These were consecutive in the terminal session I use to recursively delete the sub programs... Even more interesting the two times this has happened, the files were in a data folder, not in a folder I would use for executing them. Being that this is on Dropbox, I've had to stop syncing on my 6 Macs, delete the files before I can turn syncing on again. At the moment a deletion attempt is still running after deleting over 165,000 items in that file. When this file creation happens it really slows down my computer. Also stranger, is that I don't have a "Amazon Kindle.app" in my Applications folder. I use a "Kindle.app" The first time this happened it was with a completely different program, not Kindle. What more info can I provide?27Views0likes1CommentI'm trying to restore files, but it says I don't have enough space.
Hello - I had a hard drive that died. I downloaded "EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard for Mac" and was able to recover everything. However, when I hit "Recover," then pick DropBox for its destination, it says I don't have enough space, which is wrong. I have 2 TB of space, and I'm only using 8.1% of that space. I AM trying to transfer 550 GB, but I have plenty of room. Anyone know how I can rectify this?Solved133Views0likes6CommentsHow can I move files out of my account and close it or keep my usage under 2 GB?
Question or Issue I have been on the Basic package for many years. I do not want to close my account. I overfilled my account long before the current charging regime came in. I cannot afford a paid account, so I need to move my files out and close the account, or at least keep it to 2GB. When I try to move the files out, I get a warning message saying I cannot move anything unless I purchase an account. I cannot afford an account. I am sure there must be an easy way around this. However, finding out what that easy way is is extremely time consuming. Please can someone just tell me the easy way without me having to read hours worth of 'Terms & Conditions'. Thank you.105Views0likes4CommentsHow can I find what files I've stored on my Dropbox account to delete them and free up space?
Question or Issue Hi I have a similar issue to Thingy. I have tried to troubleshoot following all suggestions provided in this suggestion string but cannot even identify what, if anything, I have stored in the Drive. When I access it this is the screen Can someone please direct me to where I identify what I have in the Drive so I can identify what I can delete to fill up space. Dropbox Plan School Device Windows Laptop Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Question or Issue My dropbox was connected to my schools files and started syncing out of nowhere, downloaded 400GB onto my laptop. I went to the security settings on dropbox and removed my computer from the account and instructed it to delete the files. The 400GB have dissappeared from the folder but are now somewhere in my temp files. My computer says my folders only have a few GB but my temp files have 400, but I can't find them anywhere. How do I fully clear up this space so I can use my computer?103Views0likes2CommentsI can't access the "manage files" section to delete files and free up storage space.
Question or Issue I received a notification that I'm over my free storage limit but when I click on 'manage files' the screen returns to the storage notification after a few seconds so I cannot delete any files. I'm stuck in a loop! I can't even see my files but I suspect a friend has uploaded a large file into a folder I've shared with her. If I can sort the issue so I can see my files, will I still be able to delete that file she shared or will she have to do it? She's away at the moment so cannot access to delete. Thanks!144Views0likes2CommentsI'm trying to permanently delete some shared folders, but it doesn't recognize me as the owner.
Hi everyone, I’m running into a serious issue with Dropbox and would appreciate any insight. I have several folders and files that I originally created and shared in the past. Now, when I try to permanently delete them, Dropbox refuses — saying I need the owner’s help, even though I am the sole owner of the entire account. Here’s what’s happening: When I go into the folder info via the web, I see only myself listed as having access, with "Can edit" permissions — but there’s no "Owner" listed at all. These are folders I personally created and verified multiple times. I’m trying to delete them permanently to free up hundreds of gigabytes of space. After selecting “Permanently delete,” Dropbox shows: “Permanently delete 1 item? This folder will be gone forever for everyone, including for anyone still using the folder. Permanently deleting this folder won’t free up space. Enter your password to continue.” And then I get the error: “Couldn’t be permanently deleted – Ask the owner to help permanently delete this.” Again, I’m the only person listed and there’s no one else who could possibly be the “owner.” Also, under main folder settings, I get this message: “Only the owner can change these settings. Settings apply to all folders in ‘[folder name]’.” I’ve tried: Restoring the folders and deleting again Clearing cache and cookies Deleting from the web and mobile apps Checking sharing settings Verifying account permissions Nothing has worked. At this point, I believe this is an issue with the way Dropbox flags old shared folders — even if they’re no longer actively shared. I’m asking if Dropbox can please purge these folders from my account entirely and help me recover the storage space. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help or has dealt with something similar.224Views0likes8CommentsMy Dropbox account is full and I'm missing important files.
