51 TopicsTurn automated file deletion into "Make online-only" by default
Hello, I use security cameras for research. The cameras are set up to save video recordings directly onto a PC (Windows 11) on the same local network. The folder where videos are saved is inside my Dropbox folder, and the desktop Dropbox client syncs automatically. Videos are therefore automatically uploaded to Dropbox once each file finishes being recorded. This works great. The issue I am having is related to the capacity of the local hard drive. The security camera management software is set to automatically delete the oldest videos whenever it runs out of storage space, so that it has somewhere to save new videos. This causes these oldest videos to be deleted not only from my local drive, but also from the Dropbox account (Dropbox for Business). I would like to configure Dropbox to instead treat this automated deletion the same as if I used the "Make online-only" option on desktop, i.e. allow the local videos to be deleted as needed by the camera management software, but retain all backups in the online Dropbox. Is this possible? I'd like to be able to do this while simultaneously retaining as much recent video on the local drive as possible, because we often work with these local video files. This means that making older videos online-only in advance is not really the answer I'm looking for. Thank you!Solved2KViews2likes5CommentsExcel file changes not being saved
Hi, I use an Excel file saved to a folder in my Dropbox. This is accessed by two colleagues both of whom use Office for Mac as do I (Office 365 in two cases, not sure if one is standalone Office for Mac or 365) In any event, though I successfully save changes to the file, when one of my colleagues accesses the file later it's as if I've never edited it at all. I see from a 2018 community post/reply that Excel files in Dropbox can only be edited successfully using Office online. Is this still true? If this is the case, I'm disappointed that this is not made clear in some way for users of DropBox (perhaps an alert for any .xls or .xlsx files saved) because I suspect that a lot of people have lost data as a result. So I guess the question is, is the problem of not being able to edit Excel files with the desktop version of Excel still true? Cheers Iain7.4KViews2likes15CommentsDrop Box Files Opening in New Tab

I want it to go back to it opening on the same tab and am unsure how to find this setting? Please help and let me know step by step how If I click on a word document or an excel file in my dropbox files I can get it to open in the same tab and not open in a new tab. Does anyone suggest any third party apps to help with duplicate files? I've got a MacBookPro..going from Dropbox Business to Dropbox Essentials and I don't want duplicate files. So going thru thousands of files individually is not going to happen. Thanks172Views1like3CommentsI'm getting conflicted copies when using Pages on my iPad with Dropbox files.
Hi there. Whenever I use Pages on my iPad for word processing and the file it’s using is sourced from Dropbox I’m getting multiple conflicted copies generated. It feels like 1 every 5 minutes or whenever the program auto-saves so 30 minutes of writing will generate multiple conflicted copies in my Dropbox folder. Anyone have any solutions or workarounds to this? Thanks659Views1like4CommentsEDIT Powerpoint in dropbox not working

In Revu for ipad, I am able to add my Dropbox account but, I cannot see Dropbox team folders. (Team folders are in business accounts.) I have contacted both DB and BB support. I was told by BB support they "fully support standard Dropbox accounts, Dropbox Business features require explicit support from app developers." When I asked which app developers, BB or DB, I was told "both I guess." Before contacting BB support, I spent a couple hours with DB support who seemed eager to help but were not aware of the fundamental exclusion of team folders when integrating Revu for ipad. Currently, Adobe Pro DC is listed in DB connected app list and described as follows: "The Acrobat integration with Dropbox is also compatible with the Adobe Reader desktop app and Adobe Reader mobile app, available on Android and iOS." Dropbox must do what it takes to get Bluebeam Revu on their connected app list and Bluebeam must compatibly integrate Revu for ipad in this connection. Our workflows depend on both Dropbox and Bluebeam. These tools must be integrated to satisfy our growth needs. If this integration is not implemented, we will be forced to drop one or the other; or both. With Adobe, Bluebeam is now a competitive pdf editor and is being adopted by much of the AEC industry. Cloud storage on the other hand has more than 2 main competitors. We will probably be dropping Dropbox and keeping Bluebeam.3KViews1like6CommentsExcel for web file won't open
Hello! I'm using Google Chrome for Windows to open a MS Excel file using "excel for web" via the dropbox.com page. When I click through to the "excel for web" option, a "dead" paper icon (reminds me of old-school Mac icon) appears, and the file doesn't open... This file opens normally on other computers at my business. Thanks in advance for help.Solved9.5KViews1like8Comments
