In case anyone's unaware... if you're a Mac user storing your Dropbox on an external drive, you'll shortly lose that ability. https://talk.tidbits.com/t/dropbox-drops-support-for-storing-files-on-an-external-drive-and-onedrive-retains-it/20797/16 https://help.dropbox.com/installs/macos-support-for-expected-changes Just confirmed this with DB support (see below). Gutted - been with Dropbox for years and our entire video team flow is based around it đ >Hi there, I read today that you are scrapping the ability to store the Dropbox folder on external disks, on OSX. I'd like to ask more about this please. > Hello Jon, and thank you for contacting Dropbox Support. My name is Joseph, and I will be more than happy to look into your request, right away. That is correct Jon, as part of the Dropbox for macOS update, the Dropbox folder must be located in ~/Library/CloudStorage. >This is a showstopper for us, and will mean we have to move to another service. We have a large distributed team using DB for video work, no way it'll fit within internal drives. Is there a workaround? > I totally understand and I apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, there is no workaround on this as changing the location of your Dropbox folder is no longer supported by macOS. >This change doesn't seem to have hit us yet - we're running a variety of machines inc Ventura What will trigger its enforcement? Can we stay on an earlier OS or Dropbox version? >The updates happening automatically every time the Dropbox app is restarting, for example if your device never restarts it should maintain the older version but we can't guarantee full functionality on older versions of the application. >So what will happen - if we have a Dropbox folder on an 8TB drive and a tiny internal drive - will it try to clone stuff across and eat up the space? What's the mechanism? >That's right, it will try to move the content on your internal drive until it has no space and gives you an error. >Is Smartsync still supported? I.e. will it move stuff to being online only if it won't fit? >It is, however it is now known as online-only.Solved118KViews25likes697CommentsHow do I rename the root folder?
I recently joined Dropbox for Business on a trial basis. As part of the process, it forcefully renames your Dropbox folder to "Dropbox (Personal)". I have since decided not to use Dropbox for Business. Although I now only have one dropbox folder, it is still called "Dropbox (Personal)" - it did not automatically change back when the accounts were unlinked. How do I get Dropbox to change the name back?Solved48KViews9likes24CommentsHow user-friendly is Dropbox on mobile, and how seamless is your collaboration with your team?

I recently added a Dropbox Business account to my Mac and so Dropbox prompted me to add "(Personal)" in the name to signify which account it was. However, after disconnected the Dropbox Business account, my personal Dropbox folder is still named "Dropbox (Personal)". When I try to rename the folder to just "Dropbox," the computer tells me the "name "Dropbox" is already taken." Is there a way to rename this folder to just Dropbox again? Hello, Since yesterday, my team (8 users) are encountering problems with Dropbox app for Windows, systems are Windows 10 and Windows 11 so I assume it's not related with any system issues. After restarting the computer, app continues to work for about 5 minutes, after that time Dropbox options from right click menu disappear, and we cannot open any files, that were not downloaded. When we try to restart the app, it keeps getting stuck on "Starting". I assume it may be related with file path limit, but how to identify the long path? Could you please help with the issue? Thanks in advance.1.5KViews1like7CommentsHow user-friendly is Dropbox on web, and how seamless is your collaboration with your team?

I am trying to connect to a Dropbox Team account on a MacBook Air running macOS Mojave. There is already a private Dropbox account which works correctly on the computer. When I try to sign in to the Team account and I enter the account password I am left at the login window with the square Dropbox logo icon with the moving lines. The lines keep moving as though something is happening, but after a long time the window just disappears without signing me in to the Team account. I have done the full erase and reinstall of the Dropbox app (deleting ~/.dropbox, etc.) with no change in the behavior - the private Dropbox account works fine, the Team account hangs while authenticating. When I sign in to the Team account on the computer using a web browser it works fine, so I know the password is correct. Neither the private nor the business account use 2FA, so that is not an issue. In the website account settings under Security I can also see that the computer becomes "linked" while the login window is hung. I can unlink the computer, quit Dropbox, and try to sign in again with the Team account and the computer again becomes linked but without ever completely signing in or completing setup on the computer. The Team Dropbox folder never appears in ~, though the private Dropbox folder was created with no issue. I can manually create a folder in ~ with the expected name and that also works fine, so I don't think it's a filesystem permissions issue. How can I diagnose this further?3.4KViews1like22CommentsMost incompetent support ever / Dropbox sync issue (drobox for business)
Hi all, I have Dropbox synchronization issue with several laptops at my company. The issue started after the latest update. The affected laptops are unable to sync with Dropbox. I first reported the issue to Dropbox support on October 31, 2023. I was asked to provide the names of the affected devices. I will receive a email and have to respond with the name mailing from the admin address. I explained that this account does not have a mailbox and that I can only receive email from it. 9days later I received a response from Dropbox support (on November 8), but the response was irrelevant to the issue. I was again asked to email the issue from the admin account. Only then they can fix the problem. I reiterated the issue and explained that I cannot reply from a forwarded email address. I received a response from Dropbox support on November 9. I was again asked to email the issue from the admin account. I created a new mailbox and linked it to the admin account because I didn't want to waste more time. I asked Dropbox support to always include my email address in the CC field of their emails. On November 12, Dropbox support finally provided a solution to the issue (my email not in cc): I should log out of the accounts on the laptops. However, this solution did not work. There is an error message in Dropbox that said "This computer isn't linked to an account." I attached a screenshot of the error message. I also explained to Dropbox support that I cannot uninstall Dropbox from the laptops and reinstall it because this would result in the loss of data from the past three weeks. Dropbox support responded that it is logical that the laptops are not linked to the admin accounts because there are no devices linked to the admin accounts. Also they can't add an email address in CC for security reasons. I responded that I am not stupid and that the screenshot and error message are from one of the laptops that is not syncing. Also I want my email address in CC because there aren't any security details shared, thus there is no security issue! I also explained that I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Dropbox on one of the laptops, but this only worked because I had all of the files that were modified in the past three weeks on a USB drive. On November 15, Dropbox support responded that one of the laptops with the issue was able to sync. They then asked me to log out and log back in on the other laptops to fix the problem. I responded that logging out and logging back in does not work, as I have explained previously. I am at a loss as to what else I can say or do to get Dropbox support to understand the issue. The time difference is also not helping. I am urging Dropbox support to resolve this issue as soon as possible. This is unacceptable. I would appreciate any help or advice that you can provide.1.7KViews1like9Comments
