53 TopicsWhat to do with conflicted copies?
Our office has two desktop computers. Both of them access the same Dropbox. No mobile devices or other computers are involved. In the Dropbox there is a database. The database is _never_ used from both computers simultaneously. The idea by our arrangement is that two different people should be able to edit the database on different computers. We were assuming that changes made from one computer would appear when the file was opened on the other one. But we are getting "conflicted copies". Now we are all confused because we don't know which of the files contains the most recent changes. That's the file we want. We are also confused because "conflicted copies" should not appear unless two people worked on the database at the same time. So why does this happen?Solved49KViews2likes23CommentsSharing a folder and giving someone editing access, but I don't want them affecting my photos.
I want to share a folder that contains photos and I'd like the person I'm sending it to to have editing access so they can save to their own personal folder and be able to edit, crop or send the photos to others. If they make changes to any of the photos, are the changes only in their personal folder on their PC, or do their edits also appear in my folder, or affect the photos in my personal Dropbox folder. I am the owner of the file. I don't want their edits to affect my original photos in any way. I did not see this answer online. I spend a lot of time creating folders with subfolders within it for my business. I discovered that creating a folder, naming it and placing a / directly after it and then writing something else will create the folder with a secondary folder within it (very useful). Is there a way to create a folder with this or a similar method that will create 2 folders within it at the same time? That would actually save me a fair bit of time. Being able to create 1 folder within a folder is nice but 2 or more would be even better. Cheers.Solved5.6KViews0likes3CommentsReplace thumbnail on a video upload
Hello, I am uploading demo videos to share with clients. The thumbnail / static image on each video is random and is not taking the first image (which is a title card). I am getting awkward shots of our speakers in the still images, and they are not the most attractive thumbnails to share with clients. Is there any way to choose what screen the thumbnail comes from and/or replace this image? Thank you!4.8KViews5likes9CommentsUpdating a file changes the link...
I noticed today that editing a file and resaving it without changing the name now changes the Dropbox link, and it definitely didn't used to do that before. That was one of the great things with Dropbox, you could update a document without having to worry about whoever had the shared link needing to get a new one.Solved4.3KViews3likes6CommentsSimultaneously work on desktop version Excel files using the same Dropbox account
Good morning, I have a Dropbox Basic account. I have linked my account to three devices in the house. Sometimes my partner and I need to simultaneously edit Excel files in my account. So we both log in with my Dropbox account on two different PCs on which there is the same Dropbox folder on the desktop, so we access the same identical files without any difficulty. The only problem is that when we open the same Excel file to make changes, Dropbox creates conflict copies. For our case, having a single Dropbox account in the family, is there a way to work simultaneously from two devices without having problems? I specify that, if possible, we would prefer to continue working with the desktop version on the PC and not online through for example office.com. Thanks in advance. When someone opens a dropbox excel file that has been shared with them, it seems they are not able to edit in excel, unless they download it, or save via dropbox. How would someone be able to edit the file and have it show up for everyone that the file is shared with?Solved3.4KViews0likes9CommentsShared file not syncing consistently from Ipad MS 365, but it will update from a computer
I have dropbox for business. I have some employees that are not dropbox team members but I would like them to update some shared files through dropbox for reporting purposes. It works seamlessly when they are using a computer, but it rarely works when they are using an ipad or other mobile device (oddly, it seems to work sometimes, but we are unable to repeat the success when it happens). Here is the situation: I shared an excel file with editing privileges that is within my dropbox folders to my employee. From an ipad, the employee selects and opens the file in drop box app which appears to give them an read only preview of the file. Then to edit it they open excel from the dropbox app. They make the edits, close and save. However, the changes they made to the file do not update the original I shared with them from my dropbox folders. When they are using a computer, it works every time. Is there a specific set of instructions that they need to follow to get the dropbox file to update from their ipads? Thanks for the feedback!Solved2.9KViews0likes5Comments
