I do not use Dropbox for backup storage; I use a different service for that. But friends and fellow students sometimes want to share files in Dropbox, so I set up a free account. Somehow, I don't know how, Dropbox uploaded some of my photos to the cloud and filled up my basic Dropbox space. I would like to take my photos out of Dropbox WITHOUT DELETING THEM FROM MY COMPUTER or other devices. This would give me the Dropbox space that I need for sharing. But when I try to do that, Dropbox says that it will delete my photos from all my devices! How can I empty my Dropbox without deleting my photos from my devices?Solved87KViews6likes46CommentsName conflict on shared Excel worksheet
Hello there, The below email has been sent to Microsoft 2 days ago and they advised to contact Dropbox. Hope Dropbox experts are able to understand the cause of the issue. "Having a couple of issues with an Excel file shared on Dropbox among colleagues of mine. Everyday, either a colleague or myself will be editing the worksheet and saving it in a Dropbox for further use from other colleagues or myself. Every time there is a modification in the file, a new copy of the file will be saved on the date of the day to have backups. Every week, the folder including different copies of the file at different dates will cleared up so old copies will be placed in an archive and the most recent file will be kept in the folder for further use. All the users are on Excel 2016 Mac version 16.10 We have been using the file for one year + and recently my colleague is having a pop-up window whenever she needs to open the file: "Name conflict Name cannot be the same as a built-in name. Old name: _FilterDatabase New name: 'field where I can write' " I have tried to fix the issue by following the below steps that I thought could fix the issue or that I found on the net: - Copied/pasted the entire content of each tab in the file in a complete new file - Removed all filters - Tried to create a new name and the problem is fixed until we re-open the file - Tried to press 'cancel' on the 'Name conflict' pop-up window. Another pop-up window will show "Alert We found a problem with some content in the 'filename.xlsx'. Do you want us to try to recover as much as we can? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes." I click 'Yes' and the Name conflict pop-up window shows up, I click 4 times on 'cancel' and finally the spreadsheet opens with "Excel was able to open the file by repairing or removing the unreadable content" I then click Delete. The file is usable UNTIL someone else saves a new version on top of it... - Tried to send a copy of the file through email but the issue persists Very disappointing issue and clearly avoids us to work properly. Wish a Microsoft technician could help me with this issue which is extremely inconvenient. " Following to this message, I have created a copy of the file in .xls format and it is working without issue. However, I am willing to use .xlsx format as we used to. Thank you in advance, regards, LoïcSolved72KViews0likes5CommentsDeleted folders keep reappearing
I'm hoping someone can help with this problem. I have been using Dropbox for a few years across a number of devices (2 desktop Macs, a laptop, an iPhone and an iPad). This last week, when I try to delete a folder it reappears a moment later. If I move it into another folder, the same thing happens. I have checked and all my other devices are switched off or not trying to sync while I am doing this. Any advice on how to stop it? Thanks!Solved56KViews2likes83CommentsMove or copy photos from iPhone or iCloud to Dropbox
I’m using the latest iOS 12 release, and the latest version of the Dropbox iOS app, on my iPhone X. I have over 7,000 photos on my iPhone; they are also synced to my iCloud. (The volume consists of pretty much every photo I’ve ever had on an iPhone, beginning with an iPhone 4S.) Having this number of photos on my iPhone has been making my iPhone quite sluggish. I tried using the Dropbox iOS app’s built-in feature to copy or move the photos to one of my Dropbox folders; but, on each attempt, the Dropbox iOS app hangs, after moving anywhere from few hundred to a couple of thousand photos. I then opened the iCloud app in Windows 10, intending to copy the photos en masse to Dropbox, then, once the move was confirmed, erase the photos from my iCloud. (I also tried this through accessing my iCloud via Google Chrome.) I can’t seem to select more than 1 photo at a time, in my iCloud photos area. As you can imagine, selecting over 7,000 photos, one at a time, is not feasible. Thank u VERY much, peeps, for any help with this! 🙂Solved45KViews4likes4CommentsWhat can we do with ._ files? Should I delete them?
In every Dropbox folder we have duplicatie files with ._ in front. Recently: - we have used a SD card for storage (not anymore) - we have added a Windows computer to the sychronisation (before only Mac's). What can we do with these files? Can we hide or delete them? Thank you, LauraSolved45KViews0likes4CommentsI'm deleting a folder but it keeps showing up.
I have selected 'Delete' on selected folder, it disappears then reappears with the same exact 'date modified' date stamp within 5 seconds after I select 'Delete.' I have tried about 10x and so has my friend who shares the same Dropbox. Looked at security permission and I have all activated. Thank you for any help.Solved31KViews0likes27CommentsHow can I cancel my computer backup?
I apparently selected pc backup when I installed Dropbox and naturally I'm out of storage on my Dropbox account now. I don't want and have no need to have my pc backed up to it. I have the desktop app but am not able to find the preferences section to stop it from backing up. I did try just deleting My PC from Dropbox but a message comes up and says if I delete "My PC" it says it will be removed from my Dropbox and from the computer. If I delete it in Dropbox, does that mean I'll lose everything on my laptop too? Sorry if it sounds like a newbie question but I am. 🙂 Any help stopping the PC backup would be greatly appreciated.Solved25KViews2likes58CommentsDeleted files keep reappearing
Hi all, I know that many threads on this issue exist in the forum, but I couldn't find anyone that helped in my case, or the issues are slightly different. Before contacting support directly I thought that it might be good to describe it here in the forum (and hopefully someone can help me :)). I have in my dropbox a couple of PDF files in the main Dropbox folder and a subfolder (which has also one subfolder with ca. a hundred PDF files) that always keep reappearing after I deleted them, usually within half an hour (sometimes it happens instantly). They are not shared. I got this issue only very recently, and some time after I upgraded to Dropbox Plus (last month). Before, I had Dropbox Basic and I really never had this issue (which makes it even more frustrating). I have tried everything that I could possibly imagine. I unlinked all of my devices, reinstalled Dropbox, I reverted to an older version of the files, I put them on the hard drive and back again in Dropbox, I (permanently) deleted them in the browser...nothing helps. When I rename them, they are still added with the original name (the renamed copies stay - I probably could multiply them infinitely like that). These files are not old files from two years ago (saw some people in the forum having this issue). The issue appeared when I put these files and folders originally at the same place where they keep reappering now with their original name. Last week, I moved them to another folder and renamed them, but they stayed in my Dropbox. So I have these files/folders with different names and directory, but their "original" versions keep reappearing at their "original" place. It's a bit like these "original" files are stuck in the cloud servers forever, and they are always put back like that in my own Dropbox. I don't know if there was an issue with the syncing, or some other technical problem. It can also be something I did wrong, though I don't really know what. As I said, never had these issues before and use Dropbox a lot, on at least three devices regularly (Mac and Windows). No device has been added shortly before or since I have this issue. I hope that I could describe my problem with as many details as possible, and hopefully as clear as possible. Thank you very much in advance for your help!Solved24KViews2likes11CommentsHow can I see the uploading progress on my Dropbox account on my desktop?
How would I know the progress of file upload in the dropbox folder? Cause I can see the progress in browser but how to see progress of the uploading file in the dropbox folder? I also dont wanna syn , I just want to upload the file and later delete those files from the folder when the process is done. Moreover I wanna ask if the same process (hashing, zipping etc) is not initiated on browser then why I am still getting slow speed like 4.7 to 5 MBps approx? Almost all the files are aound 1.2GB to 2.5GB (no smaller files) and as you have suggested three factors The size of the file(s). The number of file(s). The bandwidth and stability of your internet connection kindly also suggest if any multicore cpu or ram improvement may improve the uploading speed?Solved23KViews1like4Comments
