How to view previews of online-only files on desktop (like how you can in the mobile app)? - macOS
I'm trying to figure out how to see previews, specifically of .jpeg online files, on my mac desktop. I use Dropbox almost exclusively for photo management and it's frustrating not even being able to ...

3 years agoHi CharlotteR, let's jump right into this!
Did you happen to follow the steps I provided above, in order for you to quit the app, and then re-launch it? If you have any screenshots of what you see on your end, they're more than welcome.
Also, could you locate your little Dropbox icon, the one next to your WiFi on your menu bar, hover your mouse over it and let me know the version of the app that you're using?
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

Hi Megan,
Yes I quit the app and then relaunched it. I actually deleted it and then downloaded it fresh and installed it again.
Here's the version I'm running.
âAnd here's what I see in Dropbox:
Relaunching the finder will create thumbnails for those recently synced files (they don't appear automatically), but the online-only files do no have thumbnail images whatever I do. They used to about a week ago!
Thanks,
Charlotte

Hi CharlotteR, is it safe to assume that you're able to see the thumbnails on these files, when the app isn't running, or is this not the case?

Megan the thumbnail images are not visible regardless of whether the Dropbox app is running or not.

Hi CharlotteR, do you see any icons next to the files, when the app is closed?
If so, can you attach a screenshot of them?

Megan this is what it looks like when the Dropbox app is closed.â

Sorry to jump in here, CharlotteR, but could you please send us a screenshot of how the files appear when you restart your Finder?

Megan this is what happens after I relaunch the finder. The downloaded images now have thumbnails. The online-only images don't.
This is regardless whether Dropbox is running or not.
If I then set those synced images back to online only, the thumbnail previews remain. But if I then relaunch the finder, the thumbnail previews disappear again.

I am having the same problem as the rest (many others, it seems). Can only see jpeg icons in finder using Ventura, dropbox version 182.4.6427.
This bug makes dropbox completely useless to me.
- No_Icons_No_Dragon3 years agoHelpful | Level 6Is this no icon preview issue universal? If so, I donât see how any creative professional, or anyone who works with images would choose to work with Dropbox. Lacking previews wouid be a fatal flaw. That said, Iâve not heard of a mass exodus, so why is this? Is it just the scores of us on this thread? Do you know of other DB users who can see previews? Iâm looking for some hope that the issue is isolated and can somehow be resolved. Is DB even listening? Do they monitor the community?

hello BenDBX and Walter.
It's been since May that we don't hear back on this thread.
I'm tagging you directly because if you scroll trough this thread you'll notice how we feel literally abandoned from Dropbox Support.
Considering that we are paying for this service, this absolutely doesn't make any sense to me.
Please NOTE that this is not a small issue, as we are basically working on the files in BLIND, without previewing files.
I hope you'll reply with some updates asap. - ngchristina3 years agoNew member | Level 2
Adding the the list of DISCONTENT users. I've been following this thread for a while now. My workaround in the past has been using Adobe Bridge, but now corporate IT is not allowing us to use this program. PLEASE FIX THIS DROPBOX.

This is ridiculous. I have the latest dropbox update and having no thumbnail previews completely destroys the workflow. Looking for another file hosting service. BYE DROPBOX.
