Is the file marked as Available Offline before you try to move it out of the Dropbox folder? If it's an Online-only file, you might be copying the place-holder file and not the actual file. Right-click a file (or many files, or a folder) and select Make available offline. Give it time to sync and wait until you see a green check mark on the file(s) before you try to move it out of the local Dropbox folder.
The message about copying or moving without the file's properties can usually be ignore. It just means that there's some extended metadata stored with the file that can't be stored on whatever drive you're copying it to and will be lost. This has nothing to do with the actual data in the file. It only refers to extended metadata.

3 years agoHey Robert Paterson, I'm sorry to see that you are not having a great experience with out support team.
I wanted to let you know that I've passed your comment along to our team about this and I've also raised the priority of your tickets, so that they are handled the soonest possible.
In the meantime, can you please clarify if your issue is related to Dropbox backup?
Is it about desktop files automatically backed up to Dropbox, or files that you manually added to your Dropbox folder?

It is not about desktop backup , all I want to do I take off all the files I have added over all the years and store on another external source and bring my storage of files on Dropbox to zero , I am not interested in backup , but that might be why drop box keeps multiplying the storage on my laptop, I am past that point now , I just would like to get everything off of dropbox in a useable format,

Hi Robert Paterson, in that case have you tried what Rich suggested already about marking your files as available offline, and then moving or copying them to a different path?
When you say it doesn't work, can you let me know if you notice any errors, or what are the exact steps you follow?

Hi Robert Paterson, I'm not sure if you tried to attached any screenshots, but it seems this didn't work out, since I can't see anything on my end.

Hi Robert Paterson, thank you so much for the screenshots!
Do you get this error when you're trying to move online-only files outside of your Dropbox folder, or files that are available offline?
Can you also let me know the version of your Dropbox app, please?

We may now may have some success here , I have been leasing with Sheldon and he said, I have reviewed the linked device, and can confirm that it is now showing as on the latest stable build versions V179.4.4985 and not on Beta.
and I have had some success in moving over items , work in progress going the right way - Megan3 years ago
