- 8 years agoHi 3van-wright.Although we donât take any action on your Dropbox files that would cause them to be corrupted, have you by any chance tried to download the file in question directly to your computer, and then opening it?You can also check to see if there are any incompatible characters included in any file names that may be causing file issues. Finally, Iâd kindly recommend checking this article out for further info which may help in the process. If youâre still experiencing some issues with this, could you please provide me with a screenshot (omitting any personal info) of any relevant error that you may be seeing? Thanks in advance. Let me know how it goes!

Hi,
I recently had this issue as well. After some investigation, the dropbox excel files were empty and just links to dropbox cloud files. This was happening after a fresh install of Dropbox on a new Mac. The user was confused as she previously had no issues opening the file. The user sent me the file and I couldn't open it. We were just copying the linked Dropbox file and not an actual Excel file. Enabling Smart Sync in Dropbox fixed the issue and we were able to copy and open the files in Excel.
