Files are randomly restored. Why?

I'm not sure if I have the right board. I'm using the free version of Dropbox so I go out daily and delete the previous backup to stay under my storage limit. For the past few weeks, Dropbox randomly restores files taking me over my storage limit. Recently it's been happening daily. How go I get this to stop?

Dropbox can't just restore files on its own. If a file is returning after being deleted, something else is causing it. Look at the version history for one of the restored files and see where the restore is occurring.

Is this something you have to do on a computer? I only use it to back up information on my android phone. I couldn't find anything that would allow me to view the document history. Yesterday I had 2 files in my folder. The backup ran overnight so I should have had 4 this morning. I had 5, one was from 9/8/2023.

You view version history on the Dropbox website. The instructions I linked to previously show the process.

Dropbox doesn't have a backup utility for mobile devices (aside from Camera Uploads). Are you using a third-party app for this?

Yes, SMS Backup and Restore. I've been using both together for 3 or 4 years and this is something that started happening about 3 months ago.

I'd still check the version history of one of the files to see where the restore is coming from, but this is likely an issue that you'll need to take up with the developer of the third-party app.
