Files disappearing from Dropbox

I am an architect who started a business using dropbox as my storage cloud.

I use Revit files as the basis of my design, 3D modeling and documentation process; its the most important part of my business.

I recently noticed a Revit file disappeared. After further investigation ALL but my actively used Revit files are gone, all other file types still intact.

I reached out to dropbox - "I cannot retrieve files deleted past 30 days since I am only a plus member, so nothing can be done" With my permission they searched my deleted history behind my paywall. They sent me a link of recently deleted revit files which (a) confirmed my suspicions they are mysteriously being deleted and (b) that it was also happening on my current projects.

I asked dropbox if there was anyway they can help me recover these files. Again they replied since it has been past 30 days its gone forever. Its hard to believe there is no admin access behind this paywall.

Has anyone had similar issues with revit or other file types, or has anyone else figured how to escalate this dropbox to recover files past 30 days per my membership paywall?

Any and all help is appreciated.

Hi there jonvano, sorry to hear about this.

May I ask if you've taken a look at your events page to see how this might have happened as this is the place where all uploads, edits,  and deletions are normally logged?

If those files were deleted outside your account's version history, then it's true that even our support team wouldn't be able to restore them.

In any case, since you've reached out to our support team already, could you share your ticket ID so that we can look it up in our system?

    Thanks!

Walter, thank you very much for the quick follow up.

Yes I have checked my events page, all "deleted" revit files happened more than 30 days ago.

    Ticket info: Ticket #22662132

There is no "archive cloud" that these deleted files go to in emergency situations like this that they can be restored from?

I have looked at similar posts and found a possible solution from Mark H.2 on this thread

"I scoured the Dropbox help pages and found a solution after I submitted a trouble ticket.

Go to the empty folder and click on the trash can icon. It will most likely show all deleted files. Right click on the folder or file and you will see an option to "restore".

Does this empty folder still exist anywhere? This post is from 2015.

    Thank you for your help.

No, there isn't. Once a file is beyond your recovery period, it's flagged for permanent deletion and removed from the servers.
