How to open word desktop in the online version
I open my document in microsoft word online version of Dropbox and I would like to edit it using my desktop app. How can I do this? There is no function for opening it in word desktop version.

Hi Sherly, thanks for reaching out to us here!
Through the Word Online app, there wouldn't be an option to open the file locally for editing.
To open your files in the local Microsoft apps for editing, you can use the Dropbox desktop app to sync your files locally to your computer. You can check out more info about the desktop app here.
It will create a local Dropbox folder on your computer which will sync any changes with your account online. This will allow you to open the files in local apps for editing and the changes you make with sync with your Dropbox account.

Can you try using a different browser to see what you can find there?
Also make sure that you don't have any settings or extensions that might be blocking this.Feel free to check this Help Center article.
Also, does this happen for all of your files and folders, or just a particular one?

5 years agoMegan I can confirm on FireFox that it also does not work - I am on the latest version of Chrome with this issue. Also my entire team (windows and mac) of 28 people is seeing the same issue. The feature to "revel/show in finder" is gone

The "Open" button requires access to ports 17600 and 17603.

Megan nothing on our side has randomly changed - we have checked that area and it is the same / autodetect - I think the feature has been removed - can you confirm? I just want to know if we need to start working on a new solution for DropBox before our annual renewal because the software is now unusable for our multiple teams and platforms with a basic "always been there feature" removed
