Solved

I have edit access on an Excel file but I can't save my changes through the Dropbox Android app

Device Motorola g54 5g
Operating System/Browser (if using the web)
Android 15

Question or Issue

I can open an excel file with sheets that has been shared with editing access. I can open to edit and can make changes. When I try to save these I get to options. To device or Google's cloud. Doing neither option seems to save the changes in the administrator's copy. What have I done wrong?

You arent opening Excel if you are choosing Sheets. You are using Google Docs to edit the file - Sheets is part of Google Drive.

If you want to open in Excel you'll need to select that if its an option. If not you need to check with Microsoft / the OS of your device to see why it isnt showing as an option.

    1 open Dropbox

    2 select file

3 select "open in" box at bottom LHS of screen. Opens with sheets

    4 edit a cell.

5 select "save" at bottom RHS of screen which takes me to the screen shown earlier.

    Thanks for the update, Malcolm!

Would you mind guiding me through the exact steps you're following until you get to that window?

Thanks Hannah I'm guessing it's sheets asking to save because I'm not in the Dropbox app. Screenshot is attached.

I get the same message and screen when I use Dropbox app as a different user to edit a different file for which I am the administrator.

    Thanks for your help.

Hi there, MalcolmW, welcome to the Dropbox Community!

The two options you mentioned when trying to save your changes, are they coming from the Dropbox app or the Excel app?

Would you mind sending us a screenshot, so we can have a visual?

    Thanks in advance!
