I want to delete the 'Mac' folder from my Dropbox
I unintentionally inserted a folder on the dropbox to be synchronized and I would like to stop the synchronization and delete it, but it does not allow me, the only folder that does not allow me. The folder has the Apple as an icon. whether you do it from dropbox.com or directly from the Mac Finder
- Could you have a look at the devices page to ensure that another desktop device isn't connected to your account?

I used the sync preferences to stop syncing my desktop folder to Dropbox, but the desktop folder is still located on dropbox cloud and NOT on my mac. All I see on my mac is an alias for the desktop. I don't want to keep my desktop folder on my mac, not on dropbox, because dropbox can't keep track correctly. Dropbox duplicates my desktop folder so there are two now, and it's never clear which is which? Do I have to completely disinstall dropbox and start all over or what?

Hey Graybell, thanks for posting on our Community and sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
Could you please confirm that you've followed these steps to disable computer backup? If you did, what option did you choose? Was it to "Keep content in folders on you Mac" or "Leave content in Dropbox"?
Let me know more!

Well, right now, the Desktop folder is located in Dropbox cloud. I want to delete it from the cloud and have it located on my hard drive, where it was before Dropbox moved it without my permission.
As for computer backup; it's very confusing that backup and sync are two different functions; I don't know if I can wrap my mind around that complication. Before I start messing with my preferences, I need to understand how dropbox works, and despite being a longtime experienced computer and dropbox user, I frankly have no idea.

Hey Graybell, allow me to jump in here, perhaps I can clarify this.
So, when you install the Dropbox application, a Dropbox folder is created, that syncs the files in your account to your hard drive, which you already know.
What the backup feature does, is move the desktop folders to your Dropbox folder, to sync and back them up.
Now, before deleting anything, you'll need to disable the feature. Have you followed the steps that Megan hyperlinked in her reply above?
