I've shared a folder, but now it doesn't appear on my account
I have tried to share a folder with a team member. The folder could not be shared both on the website or from the app in windows. When I tried to find the folder I get "folder does not exist" still...

If a shared folder isn't successfully shared, then it could return to being a private folder. In doing so, it would be re-added to your account, like what you're seeing there.

3 years agoHi bigpixel, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Just for clarification, the folder is definitely still in the Dropbox folder on your computer, with all the files inside it? Do the files have any syncing icons on them?
Do you see any recent events or deleted files on the Dropbox site?
This will help me to assist further!

Yes, I have looked into the events.
And a Marcus a dropboxer followed up on my request. However I just got a mail with self helplinks.
I will paste my reply here:
The main issue resolved itself.
I have not taken screenshots.
I must say you ask questions that were give: like
Device: [Removed as per Community Guidelines]
Affected shared folder users: [Removed as per Community Guidelines]
In events there is strange things going on.
I have NOT added this folder as it has existed already for a long time.
At 15.55 I shared the Diergeneeskunde_RENDER folder with [Removed as per Community Guidelines] and something went wrong.
I then got an error and after that the folder was no longer there.
Apparently it started re adding itself again later. But without the share. And I got no notification so I was worried my work was lost.
There is no mention of this sharing in the events.
At 4.09 it starts adding folders again to this Diergeneeskunde_RENDER.
Which is strange because I did NOT do that action at 4.43. This was done by dropbox.
The error was like mentioned, that the folder does not exist ( while it did on all systems )
Then it lost its shares and I shared it later again.
Scared the life out of me... I mean what would you do if this happened to your bank account? Oh 0 ... oops.
That's how valuable the files are to me. That's why I use dropbox.
Should I consider a different service? My trust in dropbox has been shaken.
But it is working now. Hopefully you have a way to figure out it will not happen again.

On an unsuccessful share, this info could be shared. This information could prevent stress and loss of time in a case like this.
Important is that this procedure looks like you lose your files. We have Dropbox because our files matter.
Communicating something like this is helpful!
"Hey! your files are ok .. an unsuccessful share might trigger such and such response, no worries, the folder will be re added and will be private .. so don't forget to re share!"
If that would have been communicated, it would have saved both me and Dropboxers time.
