My Dropbox is out of storage and now I can't delete files on my Mac computer!

Hello Dropboxers!

My dropbox is out of storage and now i can't delete files on my Mac!

There is no way to delete the videos, I was able to delete some photo's.

I can't pay for more storage now, so need a different solution.

Please help!

Hey Shaniqua! Welcome to our forum.

Even if your Dropbox account is over-quota, you should still be able to delete your files from it to make more space.

Can you send over a screenshot of what you see, when deleting videos from your Mac computer?

Have you tried deleting files directly from your All files page here, and it doesn’t work?

Keep me posted for more info.

    Hi!

    Thanks for response.

Pls see screenshot - The files above ALL FILES,  can not currently be deleted.

I think If I get rid of these files I will be able to synch again.

    What do you think Nancy?

Hey Shaniqua, thanks for the info!

I'm guessing this folder is only visible under the "suggested for you" right? If you search for the folder under your content on the left hand side, can you see it there?

Would you mind accessing your account's plan page, and sending us a screenshot of that too?

Here’s how you can free up space without paying for more storage:

    1. Unlink Dropbox:

      • Temporarily unlink your Dropbox from your Mac. Go to Dropbox Preferences > Account > Unlink This Dropbox.
    2. Manually Delete Files:

      • After unlinking, you should be able to delete videos and other files from your Mac without syncing issues.
    3. Re-link Dropbox:

      • Once you’ve freed up space, re-link your Dropbox. Go to Dropbox Preferences > Sign In and follow the prompts.
    4. Use Selective Sync:

      • After re-linking, use Selective Sync to only sync the folders you need. Go to Dropbox Preferences > Sync > Selective Sync.

These steps should help you manage your storage without needing to upgrade.
