Photos uploading sideways
Portrait photos have today started uploading sideways. Has never done this before and was not like this yesterday. Today photos are sideways. Are these still a back up of original photo?

I have been using Dropbox for almost a decade -- mostly to upload photos from my DSLR cameras. Very recently, when I upload photos taken in portrait mode, they show up as sideways (i.e., not in portrait mode). This occurs only within the Dropbox mobile app. On desktop and web, they continue to display correctly (i.e., in vertical portrait mode).
I have tested this with multiple cameras, and it is the same problem. So I can only assume that it's a problem specific to the Dropbox mobile app. And it has only been happening recently - like in the last couple of weeks.
Can someone please help with this?

6 years agoHey there Mood, thanks for checking in with us.
I'd be more than happy to help look into this, I'll just need a bit more info:
- Does this happen with photos you've manually uploaded or added via camera uploads?
- If you export a few photos to your mobile's storage, do they preview normally?
- Are they all the same file type by any chance?
Let me know what you find - thanks!

I uploaded a set of photos to a folder to share with my condo neighbors regarding a lobby redesign. They all loaded sideways and when people accessed the folder the photos were all sideways with no way to rotate them, I’d be happy to share the folder with you but clearly I’m not the only one having this issue. I wound up using google photos for my neighbors which worked great.

Looking at pictures older than friday last week also have this issue. All portrait pictures are shown in landscape. This goes on all platforms, PC, Android, Ipad.

This is happening to me as well. The issue is with mobile uploading on the app. Photos and videos used to appear in the proper orientation, photos and videos. However, something happened over the weekend, where vertical pictures are sideways and horizontal images taken with the volume on/off buttons on top (like a "typical" camera) are upside down.
I'm guessing Dropbox ran an update on the code that reads the photo metadata differently, but now it's messing up almost literally every single photo upload. Since neither the Dropbox app nor the browser version allow you to rotate pictures, this almost breaks the service for me.

These are .jpeg images that I upload directly from my DSLR camera to my desktop, and then via my desktop onto the Dropbox desktop app. As I mentioned, the photos display normally (i.e., not rotated) on the desktop app itself. It's only when I view them on the Dropbox mobile app (on my iphone) that they are displayed rotated.
And again, this is only for images in portrait mode (not landscape). I have noticed this problem for about a week. It's never before happened in the ~10 years I have been using Dropbox for photo uploads.
Please assist!

Hi Lusil.
I am not a frequent user, but here is my experience. I took photos with my iPhone, I uploaded them to my PC, I then moved them into my dropbox folder. When viewed in explorer, the dropbox folder shows all photos in their correct orientation. However, when viewed online, as the person I'm sharing with needs to do, they are all in landscape orientation, even though the majority should be in portrait.
I hope that information helps and look forward to hearing there is a resolution.
