Removing a shared folder from my account
How can I remove a folder that was shared with me? without asking the sharer to remove it for me. I wanted to increase my storage since it's almost full due to the shared files. hope someone can help me with this
- If you delete a folder inside the shared folder itself, then it would be deleted for all members of the shared folder.
The folder could then be recovered from the deleted files page within 30 days of the deletion.

Ah, OK I see. So there's no way to remove a shared subfolder from my account, it can only be deleted.
It's affecting the quota on my account.

Hi noragoddard, if you're seeing the 'larger' folder, which would be the parent folder on the shared page, then this means that the parent folder is the actual shared folder.
You can only remove that parent folder from your account. You can't selectively 'remove' subfolders from within a shared folder, since this would act like a normal deletion, and that deletion would affect other users.
Is this affecting your quota on your account, or do you simply not want to see the subfolders on your desktop app?

Hey noragoddard - could you please clarify if you're the owner of this specific folder or if it's shared with you?
Note that you can unshare a folder as long as the folder doesn’t have any shared folders inside of it and the folder isn’t inside another shared folder.

I see where I can do that for other folders on my account. For this, though, on the "shared" page it just shows the larger folder that the folders I want to remove are inside of. It only shows me the option to remove the entire larger folder (don't want to do that).

Hey noragoddard, thanks for your feedback here.
Can you go to your "shared" page and click on the "..." (ellipsis) button next to the shared folder and then on "removed from Dropbox"?
This should remove the folder only from your own account.

I am having the same issue. People keep posting the same generic instructions to remove oneself from a shared folder, but it is not working for me. When I go to the folder sharing permissions, I can remove everyone else from the folder but there is no option to remove myself. There simply isn't a dropdown menu next to my own name. I can go to "delete," but it only gives me the option to actually delete it for everyone which I obviously do not want to do. (I have deleted another shared folder from my account and a popup clearly said that others would still have access to it. That is not happening in this case).

Hey Caitlinml, thanks for the nudge here.
The steps to remove your access from a shared folder can be found here.
I hope this helps!

Hi there, I am experiencing the same issue and can't seem to find the steps you list either. How do I remove myself from a shared folder? Thanks!
