2 years agoHi maryjo1, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Do you mean that the Dropbox desktop application uninstalled itself from your device? Was the Dropbox folder itself deleted as well?
Were you performing any kind of backup, reset or any other system service, or changes to your Dropbox account, that could've affected this?
This will help me to assist further!

Jay, Thank you so much for replying. Yes, both the app and the files were deleted. I have no idea how this happened. It put me in a serious panic. I'm traveling but I've contacted my IT person (University IT) to ask if he knows of any reason how this happened. I have turned off my University back-up.
This was a truly frightening experience. I use dropbox!
How do I delete some of the places where my dropbox is on. Some of those computers haven't been used in years.
When I reinstalled the app it told me I had 2G of free space! Using my iphone I was able to get my files and they are being reinstalled on my computer.- Hannah2 years ago

Thanks for your response, maryjo1.
It does sound strange, although Dropbox wouldn't just delete your files, other reasons might be behind this.
Does your events page give you an idea? It's a page that contains all events that happened in your account the last 30 days.
If the files were indeed deleted and you restored them, you could also take a look at the version history of the restored files; it should show you the device the files were deleted from.
And lastly, you can see all the devices connected to your account, at the bottom of your security page here.

Thank you Hannah, I'll do this.
And thank you for helping me restore my faith in Dropbox. I really depend on it.

Are you able to see your files when visiting your account online maryjo1?
It sounds like the app is syncing everything locally at the moment, right?

Sorry I'm late in replying. It turns out that not only dropbox app and dropbox files were deleted but other files on my computer disappeared off the HD. No one I've talked with, including my workplace IT people, has any idea how this happened.

Yes, both the app and the files were deleted from my laptop. I did not perform this action!
I reinstalled the app, and I'm reinstalling the files.
I've never had an issue with Dropbox like this before. This is very scary.
