It does sound strange, although Dropbox wouldn't just delete your files, other reasons might be behind this.
Does your events page give you an idea? It's a page that contains all events that happened in your account the last 30 days.
If the files were indeed deleted and you restored them, you could also take a look at the version history of the restored files; it should show you the device the files were deleted from.
And lastly, you can see all the devices connected to your account, at the bottom of your security page here.

I cannot find an events page on my homepage. There is nothing labeled activity. Can you help?
