Will I lose my files?

Hello everyone,

Money is a little tight right now and my Dropbox subscription is coming to an end. Due to the fact that I love Dropbox as my hard drive/backup option, and plan to reactivate my membership as soon as possible, I have almost 2TB of storage from 2006 in my account. While I deactivate my premium membership for the time being, does anyone know if once I end my 2TB subscription, will all of the files get deleted?

Secondly, does anyone know how to save an extra copy of these files to an external hard drive? As I said I have photos and videos from 2006 that are extremely important to me, and god forbid something happen I want to make sure I have a copy of those.

No. Your data will stay there, but the account will not be able keep the sync (since you will fall in overquota). Once you restore your subscription, the sync gonna be back. In meantime you will be able access your data (including images) only through the web interface.

While your subscription is still active, just copy the data to the external drive the same as you would do with any other folder. 😉

No. As long as you keep the account active (sign in at least once every 12 months), neither your account nor your files will be deleted. If the account goes idle for more than a year, it will be deleted due to inactivity.

If you're syncing everything to your computer, it's as simple as copying the files from your local Dropbox folder to your external drive. If you're not syncing all the files, you'll either need to sync everything locally and then copy or download your files from the Dropbox website and save them on your external drive.
