Camera Uploads Keeps Crashing - Dropbox for iOS

Hi there.  I have had camera uploads for years and years.  The dropbox app keeps crashing now - and I think it is because of too many photos.  I saw this post (https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Create-upload-and-share/Force-phone-to-re-upload-all-photos/td-p/635871) but I cannot get my computer to authorize my computer for this (it is set up for default action to import to dropbox).  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi dennisgaudenzi, all photos means that is scans your entire camera roll to upload those images, excluded images that were previously uploaded.

New photos will only upload photos from the moment you choose that option, so no older images would upload, only brand new ones from today onwards.

Hey dennisgaudenzi, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Can you open the Dropbox app, tap on 'account', then on the gear icon and then on 'clear cache' to see if that helps?

If not, try to uninstall it, restart the device and then reinstall it and let me know how that goes.

    Thanks.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

I tried to clear, app crashes before it finishes.

I did reinstall a month ago trying to fix, I will try again and report back. I have a lot of photos on my phone (about 17,000). Have you see an issue with the app trying to review too many and crashing?

That said, some of my photos are uploading. I know they are not all there, but 1-2 upload before the crash. Then I think some are uploading at other times. It’s very odd.

    Thanks.

Hi there dennisgaudenzi, sorry to jump in here, but did you have the chance to reinstall the app on your iPhone yet?

If you did, do the crashes still occur?

While we're at it, I just checked the mobile app on my Android device and I don't see any lagging or crashes and my file count in the Camera Uploads folder is very close to yours, 16,579 files to be exact.

Hi Walter, it could also be that I have a very large dropbox, not sure.

I removed the app from my iPhone.  I rebooted.  I reinstalled the app.

It has not crashed yet.  That said, it took a couple weeks for it to start crashing the last time I reinstalled.

Right now, I have it set to back up All Photos.  Should I switch this to New Photos after it is seemingly done uploading to make it a faster lookup process against Camera Roll?  I don't want it ti upload all photos a SECOND time creating duplicates...

Also, does having a passcode lock # set affect the upload process if you are not logged in?  Does it upload when Dropbox is not open on the phone, logged in via the passcode or not?

    Thank you,

The automatic camera uploads feature will pick up from where you had left off and won't be uploading any duplicates dennisgaudenzi

As for your additional concern, setting a pass-code would probably interfere with the upload process and you'd need to unlock your phone and app to resume it.

Let me know if anything else comes up!

Ok, thank you.  It looks like it uploaded most photos - its still working on the ones prior to 2020. It says "scanning your photo library".  I will give that a few days and leave off passcode for now.

After it is done, should I switch to "new photos" only instead of all photos to sync?   What's the difference?

    Thank you again!

    Dennis

Hi dennisgaudenzi, give it some time, and let us know how it goes!

As for the new photos, you can change it once it's done updating, but if you keep it to upload all photos, they shouldn't be duplicated, since they've already been uploaded once before.

ok thanks.  What is the difference between All Photos and Only New Photos to upload selection in settings?
