Can we allow users to only view and download files or folders shared to them?

We have a website that has about a dozen links to our Dropbox account. These links are to multiple folders containing hundreds of printable music files and set lists in PDF format. We’d like to allow our members, or even visitors, to be able to click on the those links on our website to take them to the associate folders or files in our Dropbox account. But we want them limited to only be able to view or download the files or folders. We don’t want them to be able to add, create or upload files or folders, rename files or folders, or worst of all delete files or folders. And, we don’t have the resources to devote to replying to individuals everytime someone clicking on a website link requests access to view and download. We thank you in advance for an answer to our problem.

Hi JoeZip, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

If you're sharing links to folders on your account, then you can mark those folders as read-only, meaning that no other users can edit files within those folders.

Users shouldn't be able to request to join read-only shared links as of March 2024

    Keep me posted!

Yes, you can set up shared links in Dropbox that allow users to view and download files without the ability to edit or delete them. When creating the shared link, make sure to adjust the settings to "Viewer" access. This way, users can only access the files and folders without making any changes. Just share the links on your website, and it should work perfectly for your needs!
