Desktop app stuck on Indexing on Mac Sonoma 14.3

A search here shows this is a chronic, repeated problem for years, yet still no sold solution. Hoping you can provide me a fix that won't force me to remove everything and start over.

MacOS: Sonoma 14.3
Dropbox Version: 195.3.4974 (Beta)

Dropbox location: CloudStorage

Dropbox files: 350,000+ SDD, more in cloud
Dropbox Plan: 2 TB (87% used)

Permissions & Hardlinks: Reset
SDD Space Available: 270 GB

Two days ago I mistakenly chose "Make Available Offline" to a large folder I should not have. A half-hour later, all my hard drive space (1 TB) had been sucked up, warnings went off, etc. Went into Dropbox Preferences and used Selective Sync to turn off the big folders. But the damage apparently had been done.

Two days later, those folders are still in my Finder, although Selective Sync says they're not, and Dropbox is stuck on the dreaded "Indexing" without showing how many files are left or any sort of progress. Nothing is being synced. I have tried every solution found in this forum:

• Turning off Sync and Backup to just let the indexer run. (12 hours, no joy)
• Resetting hardlinks and permissions (No joy)
• Upgrading MacOS from 14.2 > 14.4
• Logging out of my account in the Preferences panel and logging in again.

This last option saw Dropbox reindex 352,000 files in a few hours, counting down to zero. But when it got to zero again it just got stuck in "Indexing" with no file totals showing.

To be clear, this was not an OS upgrade issue. The MacOS was on 14.2 when the problem began. I upgraded MacOS last night thinking that could fix the issue. (It didn't)

I could copy all my locally changed files and wipe out the dropbox installation and re-install and re-sync, but I'd really rather not do that. Any way to fix this?

Hi bjames1000, thanks for providing these details!

Have you tried marking the folder as online-only instead of using selective sync?

Have you already been in contact with the support team directly?

This will help me to assist further!
