Dropbox folder not syncing

Hi,

We use dropbox in our company and we share one folder with some workers using MAC computers.  The problem is, one of these people is able to see the folder on her dropbox, but when right clicking there is no option to "online-only", so it just syncs when she gets in to the office.  but still no option to keep the folder online.  when I go to selective sync, the folder is checked already, so, I have no idea what to do.  I already tried all the tricks that I could find.  Is there someone that can help me out?

I'll appreciate a lot!

Hi ITWANNABE, if they are on a Dropbox Basic plan, then they won't have the option to mark files as online only, since this is only with paid plans.

If the Dropbox desktop application isn't running, then files won't sync, are you certain that they're running the Dropbox app when the machine starts up?

Hi there ITWANNABE, sorry to hear about your syncing issue.

Can you please clarify if you're all using the same team account or separate, individual Dropbox accounts? Is this a shared folder or a team folder?

Also, what exactly is the issue here, can you elaborate a tad?

Note that online only files and selective sync are not the same thing. With the former, you can see and interact with your files on your computer without them taking up hard drive space (unless you select to make them available offline). With the latter one, you can un-sync folders from your computer which should free up hard drive space, but then, you won't be able to see it on your computer and you'd need to navigate to this folder through the website if needed.

I hope this helps to some extent and please let us know how you get on.

    Hi Walter,

    Thank you for answering.

I don't know how to use the account as a Team account, so, the people that share files use their own basic account with dropbox.  I am not an expert on dropbox ( or anything else computer wise) I usually try to learn as I do stuff, so I think I may have done something wrong,  and now, I really do not know how do I fix that.

To clarify:  We as a company have a dropbox account. The people that work with sales, we provide them with a macbook and they open a basic account on dropbox.   Then we share one folder with them, so they can update their sales information and we keep working on it at the office.  I am having one problem with the latest one that I invited to share this folder.  when she is at our building, the files update online into our main dropbox normally, but if she is not here (most of the time) the files do not update in that specific folder.  And I already tried to select the folder with the right click and leave it online only, but in her Mac, it does not shows that option.  maybe it is such a easy fix, but I am not seeing it.

If you can help me out, I'll appreciate 😉

Hi Jay, Thank you for your answer.  I suspected that the problem was that the person was using a basic free plan.  I just upgraded the plan and it is giving the option to share the folder online. Thank you 😉

I have this problem too. I have dropbox on both my iMac and my Mac laptop, and files that have been put into a shared folder show up on my laptop but not my iMac. At the top of the Finder on my Mac, I see the message "The application Dropbox could not be found." I updated the permissions in my system preferences and now dropbox does show up in my finder with the older files, but I don't know how to get it to sync. The Dropbox folder is in Library/Application Support and shows up in the Finder under Locations, which is the right place, I think. How can I get the newer files to appear on the iMac?

Hey handsdeb, thanks for the nudge here and sorry to see you're having syncing issues on your iMac.

Can you check and let me know the sync status and version of the Dropbox application on your computer?

You can see that by hovering your mouse over the Dropbox icon in your menu bar.
