Dropbox is uploading duplicate camera upload images, why?

When I open my dropbox folder on my computer in order to download photos from my mobile phone, all pictures are downloaded twice.

Looking at my dropbox on-line and on the app on my phone I can see photos appear twice, sometimes 3 times.

I have to delete all the duplicated pictures manually ☹️

What can I do to stop this?

  • Thanks for the info, Ria.

In your initial screenshots, I do see a discrepancy between the images, which is that two of the duplicates seem to have been "captured by AutoStamper", which is indeed a 3rd party app.

Can you check if this app edits your photos, perhaps in the background, without you doing it manually?

    Thank you for the reply.

I always use AutoStamper instead of the camera app, as it adds a date to the photos.

As far as I know that is all it does.

I have never changed any settings in AutoStamper and the settings button shows more or less the same as the settings button in the camera app.

Looking on the web I found this:

    AI Overview

Yes, Auto Stamper is an Android app that can edit photos by adding watermark stamps:

Features: Auto Stamper can add a variety of stamps to photos, including date and time, copyright logo, GPS map, signature, and sequential numbers

Customization: Users can customize the colour, shadow colour, background colour, format, positioning, and size of the stamps

Camera: Auto Stamper has a built-in camera for taking photos

Maybe I try taking a few photos with the camera app to see if that stops the duplicated downloads.

    Thanks

    Ria

    Hi again,

I have been taking pics in the last few days to see if the duplicating stopped.

At first it didn’t seem to work, even taking pics with the camara app and not AutoStamper.

I then uninstalled AutoStamper and this done the trick 😁

    No more duplicating 👍

Hopefully that is the end of it🤞

    Thanks for the help,

    Ria

Thanks for the update, in general, third party camera apps work by taking a normal photo, then adding a filter, which in this case is a date and watermark. They can also take control of the main camera app, which is why you were experiencing this behavior even when using the default camera.

Since two photos are saved on the Android file system (one with and one without the date visible), the Dropbox mobile app would upload both images.

    Thanks,

I do s understand this....but not all photos were duplicated.

    Only random ones 🤔🤷🏻‍
