"Follow" Folder Option Grayed Out
Someone has shared a folder with me, and I want to "follow" the folder so that I get emails when a file is added or changed. When I over over the ellipses for the folder, the "follow" option is gray...

Your Team Admin can check the settings from his Admin Console > Settings.
Let us know how it goes.

Check with Admin on what - what plan theirs says or whether they can follow the folder? Or something else?

I think Hunter was referring to top level editing as found in the Admin Console's settings Kris N.3
Could you check with your team's admin if they see this option and if they do, ask whether it's on for everyone in the team or only the team admins? - Kris N.35 years agoHelpful | Level 5
Thanks for the clarification! My admin changed my permissions to be admin level the same as his, and the folder is still grayed out for "Follow".

I'm having the same issue with a shared folder, grayed out and no options to change notification settings. How about you share the information with the rest of us?

Hey themaybeblock & Kris N.3, thanks for your nudges here and sorry to hear about this.
Would it be OK if I send you an email to investigate further? - kisere4 years agoNew member | Level 2
I was having the same issue and after messing around with the notification settings and turning on the "Changes to docs I follow", the "follow" option was no longer greyed out for the folder I wanted notifications on. Hope this helps!

Yes do email please, I have some other things I would love to say to your company after screwing up my entire database by unexpectedly and unceremoniously changing my folder name to Dropbox (Personal) when I had to join a team recently. You have screwed up hundreds of links within video project files. I am so disgusted with your service I don't know where to start.

Thanks for absolutely nothing, Walter. Dropbox has failed on every level to address this very stupid predicament I am in thanks to their sloppy, lazy coding.

***you have to share the file first***
After that the grayed out option becomes available.
