How can I see if I have a file open on another device?

Hi,

I'm a single Dropbox user, not part of a team, however I am using Dropbox on multiple devices (which is my main purpose for having it).

Here's what I need help figuring out: when I open a file on a device, can I somehow see if it is already open on one of my other devices?

I know how this works with the badge when several users are collaborating - but my scenario is just me, with several devices.

Hope someone knows how to achieve this!

many thanks in advance  /Tommy

Hey tommysahlin - thanks for using Dropbox and welcome to the Community!

Can you please clarify what type of files you're talking about and how would you be accessing and/or editing the files in the first place from your devices?

    Thanks!

      Hi Walter,

thanks for your reply! I have an Excel budget spreadsheet, which I sometimes work with on a PC in my office, sometimes on a Mac at home, in both cases using local installations of Excel. The spreadsheet is in a Dropbox folder. When I open it in the evening at home, I'd like to be sure that I didn't forget to close it earlier in the office, to avoid conflicting versions.

      thanks  /Tommy
